Zooridge - Ep1 - Lovers Lane Campsite

EPISODE 1
We had the privilege of spending two days in the spectacular Zooridge area in the Koue Bokkeveld. It surpassed all our expectations!
Mia joined us on this trip and we show you what we found in three Episodes:
EPISODE 1: Aankoms Farm Shop, Water Pans and the unique Lovers Lane campsite. We’ve never experienced such a campsite before!
EPISODE 2: More Rock Arches and ancient Rock Art, some 8000 years old!
EPISODE 3: Zooridge Canyon and the exquisite Amber Cave. We thought we have seen it all, until we got to the Amber Cave! 😀

Baie mooi!!! Ons sal werklik by julle moet kom kers opsteek wanneer ons, ons toer na die Kaap se kant toe aanpak. Daar is so baie fantastiese plekke in ons land waarvan ons nie eens weet nie. Baie dankie dat julle dit met ons deel, en veral die warm, vriendelike en openhartige wyse waarop julle dit doen...... voel al klaar vir ons, ons het vriende in die Kaap..

Ja, mens hoef nie ver te ry van die Kaap af om mooi plekke te kry nie, maar daar is nog baie plekke in die noorde waar ons nog nooit was nie. Ons moet net die tyd kry om verder trips te doen! This was yet another superbly enriching experience, shared so generously with all of us, Annelie, Mia and Werner! Thank you for always succeeding in making us feel so welcome and as though we truly are right there alongside you. I am in awe of those majestic boulders, rock formations and sweeping arches. The colours, textures, forms are mesmerising. I was excited to see all three pups in the car, but sad when they were lovingly removed, one by one at the start of your journey - however, hearing that leopards were a real concern, Frikkie was definitely safer at home. Having Mia join you again made up for our disappointment ☺️ And you got to give those friendly Border Collies some love! Aankoms Padstal looked very quaint and the goodies you selected had me drooling! I can’t wait for Episode 2.

Zooridge is indeed a very special place, and we still have a lot to show in our next two videos 😀 Was great to have Mia with us for this trip, although Frikkie is always missed very much when we have to travel without him. Luckily he is not alone at home, as Dawie and Dougie are with him, together with our son who is then on pet duty... 🐶🐶🐶🐱🐱 Des, we tried something different with this video, by making it much longer than any of our previous videos, was it maybe too long? @@backroadchronicles Definitely not too long! It was over before I “wanted” it to be (I never want your videos to end!). I actually felt sad 😞 The two week wait was too long 😁 You have no idea how much I enjoyed every moment - even more so, since I’m actually in hospital atm. Nothing too serious, but wasn’t anything expected. I’m going to be fine 😊 Sending love to all of you!

What range are you driving in and how much bar is your tyres

For the Zooridge trip it was only high range driving, this Fortuner is permanent 4x4. I only used low range once to cross a dry sandy creek (this is shown in Episode 3, coming up...). I kept tyre pressure at 1.5 bar, as it was combination of sand and some rocky parts... 😀 All the best, Werner

Hello again guys 😊 Yet another "middle of nowhere" adventure where you surely enjoyed the tranquility. Great song choice for the "Lover's Lane" segment! Really beautiful song! Having such an affinity for the ocean, I do hope some of your next trips will be near the sea again, also exploring the quaint and quirky little towns of the Cape is something we'd love to see more of again 😊 Glad this trip had smoother, safer driving for you 😊❤

I haven’t thought of this place for years. We used to hike there as kids ( about 45 years ago), last time was in 1982. In those days you couldn’t drive all the way to the camp but had to stop about 1 km short ( maybe where the pan is). First night sleep was normally in the cave and the next morning a hike, through Zoo Ridge and down to the Winkelharts river. Sleeping on the beach next to the river one night, I slept 10m away from the group. Next morning there were “cat” tracks between us.

Wow, thanks for sharing about your Zooridge experiences of years ago…. It was completely new to us, and we only camped the one night. We still tried to see as much as possible and will show this in our next two videos over the next two Sundays. I’m sure though that we missed many things as well an we’ll have to go back 😀. Seems like it has always been leopard territory… 🙂
