Zoot Suit Riots Memorial Cruise 2024 - Downtown Los Angeles

Quick video of the quality bombs that participated in the Zoot Suit Riots Memorial Cruise, shot from the 6th Street Bridge and near Olvera Street in Downtown Los Angeles. The bombs meet up in the morning at a spot on Whittier Blvd in East LA and cruse around 12:30PM through historic parts of Downtown Los Angeles, including the 6th Street Bridge, the Broadway Theater District, and Olvera Street to the Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights. This year's participation was once again top notch, with what seemed like a lot more cars than last time!

Hi 👋 Greetings from New Zealand. A good procession of old cars. My parents married in 1955 , and their bridal cars were two Chevrolets. Like the ones featured here in your video. American cars were assembled here in the early days of motoring.

Who can forget the riots in 1940"s Los Angeles, were innocent Los Angelinos ( Mexican American) were attacked because of who thtere are and what they wore.

You seriously miss the "other side" of the story which is always left out. AMERICANS were going off to fight in World War 2 and the Mexicans weren't and made a point of wearing flashy clothes when the US was Rationing for the War effort. Mexico did NOTHING during World War 2.

The bodies of dead soldiers Mexican and mexican American were coming back from the war into their neighborhoods. Every mother in those poor neighborhoods noticed a pattern, Ruben Salazar a reporter from the LA Times was shot to dead in the eye for reporting. The government treated LA as a domestic colony and the forces of peace murdered people, the government then sent soldiers to combat the citizens. A congressman called Mexicans descendants of the bloody aztec and violent aliens. The government started playing dirty politics and started deviation by accusing mexicans for being drug dealers, amplified the word Hemp into Marijuana to deceive public opinion.

Its very interesting how society glorifies Zoot Suits today. In the early 1940s, the United States government mandated a ration for the War effort. The categories of rationed foods during the War were sugar, coffee, processed foods (canned, frozen, etc.), meats and canned fish, and cheese, canned milk, and fats. Furthermore, shortly after Pearl Harbor, there was a heavy burden on US supplies of basic materials like metal, rubber, paper, shoes, and ESPECIALLY garments . Minimal used clothing was mandatory throughout the United States, but some Mexicans decided to defy the rules set forth, wear excessive clothing , and because they didn't enlist in the Services, it pissed Americans off ! Today we look at these people as some sort of Heroes . The men that fought in the War were the TRUE HEROES !

What the hell are you talking about Pachucos had those "Drape's" way before the war. You are just singling out the clothes but disregard the racial slurs being used to describe these Pachucos. Wetbacks, greasers, and beaners was the language being used and being a Pachuco was not anti war. The anglo were anti mexican and anti black but as usual you only see it from the anglo perspective.You need to take in to account that this is to remember the injustice the government and the city of Los Angeles made on the Mexican American community that is why you are seeing this and will see this annually because the city recognized it wrong doing..heroes wear many capes and in our community those that went against this injustice are also our heroes.. this is not for you🇲🇽🇺🇸✊🏽✌🏽
