Because there has come together so much fanart and theories over the years, I gues it will be very difficult to create a proper sequel... They need to find a good balance of what fans are expecting or hoping to happen but also implement there own contant. So nobody can accuse them for stolen ideas. A Fox-Rabbit crossbreed would be a Raffix! But actually, I think they shouldn't be able to have kids together. If this romance does happen, it would be a story about the difficulties of non-standard relationships. And a lack of natural fertility is one of those problems.

There are hybrid animals. But I think there hasn’t been a fox and rabbit hybrid yet (as far as I know. Please inform me if you have any info on this!) so idk but they should definitely adopt if they ever have any kids and hybrids are out of the equation.

I think the offspring would quite literally be a fobbit. Which was a inside running joke in Disney's Pixar. Although that was a combination of a frog and a rabbit. I would imagine since they already covered the topic with race in the last movie. Their children could represent a topic on developmental disabilities. If their children are actual blend of the two species and not adopted. I think you're a fact that they are not predator or prey animals but something in between would essentially represent the being disabled in their universe.

I actually think that since foxes and rabbits can't have offspring irl, and the first movie took on topics like racism and stereotyping. The second movie could be an allegory for infertile couples and their adopted children, and have a message about how just because you're adopted into a family, doesn't make that family any less your own. edit: or even their relationship could represent interracial species

Except infertile couples tend to have no reason to expect infertility. Nick and Judy would have no reason to expect to conceive, so using them to represent infertile couples would suggest said couples were to blame for their own predicament, via bad (if not downright stupid) judgment.

I'll say this at this point if they won't make Judy and Nick a couple in the sequel they are really kicking themself in the balls. Yes not everyone wants to see them as a couple but the vast majority does. There are thousands of fanarts,fanfics and theories out there, plus it's a Disney movie and making them a couple can show kids how different people can love each other the same. Also them trying to make a family despite the obvious race difference and possible racism remaining in the city could be easily a plot for a sequel.

I once dreamt the sequel of Zootopia was called: Zootopia 2: The Great Swap Incipt: for an unexplicable reason a lot of people woke up in the body of a different species. And the common denominator is that everything has happened between couple of aanimals of pray and predator species that have been in contact for a long time. This happened to Judy Hopps, now a fox, and Nick Wild, now a rabbit. But also between Dawn Bellwether, now a lioness, and Leodore Lionheart, now a ram. While Nick and Judy are working on this mistery the tension in zootopia is increasing, as people of the two different groups, predators and preys, avoid each other and both groups avoid the people that have changed their species. A misterious goat is preaching this as a sign of the end. Meanwhile Dawn Bellwether is enjoying her new shape and is planning break out and revenge on Judy. I can't wait to see how close I went to the real plot.
