Mackenyu isn't contracted to a Japanese agency. He used to be, but he made the switch to an American agency like two years ago because he wanted to focus on overseas projects. I think he's just more careful of how he appears in public.

2:00 Taz is like that with all of the crew not just Emily. there’s actually several clips of him kissing them in the forehead or cheeks, he’s super affectionate with the straw hats 🥺 btw macken isnt an idol, technically he debuted as an actor but his contract is definitely strict and he has done some quasi-idol stuff (like that Closer cover) and has worked with a bunch of them. Idols in japan are a different realm altogether and japanese people see mackenyu as a character actor.

His co-star has mentioned that he is quite intense when he is in character and there was 1 instance where he was exercising and he saw his co-star he started screaming "ANIKI" at him with like a weird smile and the co-star was so spooked about it.

Mackenyu is not an idol, he's an actor, but he can sing too because he's done musicals. He is the protagonist of the hollywood movie Knights Of The Zodiac and played the character Enishi in the movie Samurai X. By the way he is just shy and more reserved, especially when there are many cameras and people around, but he loves the cast and seems very close especially to Inãki and Emily.

Same- whenever my mom hosts casual meet-ups with her friends and colleagues (like ~20 or so people, they all have dinner and just talk about how business is going) I somehow become the centre of attention within like 3 seconds of walking into the living room.. …max, they usually notice me right off the bat when I’m standing on the staircase contemplating if I should even go down there.
