I love the way you subtly parallel Bleach's Zanpakutous and One Piece's black blades. It really makes your point clearer. Zanpakutous are not just swords that help you in a fight, they ARE you. You don't need their help to fight and enforce your will, you fight for yourself, because the blade is you. I would really want to see that happen with the black blades too tbh. Some people need to realize how strong King actually is. I was guilty of putting him on Katakuri lvl at first too, because Kaido&Big mom and their Crews are so similar. But that was months ago, who still believes that and is reading the Manga is Like myself back then WRONG. King is specificly statet to be only second to Kaido. He defeated Marco in base, his casual attacks LITERALLY DESTROY PARTS OF ONIGASHIMA and can withstand Zoro who performed better then post WCI gear 4 luffy on the roof like this? then add he is a ancient race, a literall God...like the dude could despite admiring kaidos strenght (maybe resistence to torture?) and joined him to hide so the government wont find him. Thats why he wears the suit 24/7 What i mean is he is far, BY FAR closer to kaido then kat is to big mom. Gear4 back then was sending him flying and bleeding etc. and only a few hits where enough, while a far stronger luffy was easily dealed with on the roof

I believe there’s still another concept of power up that Oda has yet to introduce and that is the ability to channel Demonic power or something similar. And its so rare in OP world that its almost unknown and unheard of.. perhaps it has something to do with how or where the devil fruits powers came or channeled.. And unlike haki, learning demonic powers have no teachers that u can learn it from.. and perhaps rayleigh is just one of the rarest individual to possess this.. its like having a devil fruit of his own without a weakness.. and having the mastery of this demonic power has granted him the title of dark king.. now combine that with him being a master haki user on top of it… another prominent characters that potentially possesses this are zoro, roger, shanks, and maybe dragon and rocks and garp? Which could explain these Monsters dont possess devil fruits.. coz they are the devil themselves that possesses demon’s powers without any known weakness.

Yeah, Oda NEEDS to show what King can do, so far even though he's toying with Zoro he isn't even trying and hasn't taken any damage. We still don't know the full capabilities of King's race we just have general stuff like they can survive in any environment and their fire power, but we still need to see how King's fire is special or different than the fire that Zoro cut easily before and how he can utilize them, we don't know about his Haki, and (correct me if I'm wrong here) we still haven't seen his hybrid form (the closest we got was him transforming his arms into wings and the rest of his body is in base form, but I don't think that's his Hybrid since Oda didn't give it that huge reveal yet).

You make alot of valid points. Along with some good ideas. My take is a sword is given life by the man that forged it. The better the smith the stronger/longer the life. The swordsman gives the sword a soul. The better the swordsman the stronger the soul. In Japan where this story comes from. A sword is retired when it's master is dead, or passed down to the son. The son would literally be marching into battle with his father or grandfather. Meaning the soul given to the blade is that of the master. Any master over the years who was worthy of using the sword would leave behind pieces of them selves. So in this story Zoro must become one with his sword. A true master with a masterwork blade. The soul of Oda along with the soul of Zoro will turn his sword black. I believe this is due to some souls are stronger, more pure, more evil then others. Oda and Zoro are cut from the same cloth so to speak. His sword will recognize the kindred spirt of it current master to it's former. This with it's inability to win for it's former master costing Oda his life. Followed by Zoro's determination to finish it's first master's work. Will cause the sword to accept Zoro as it's master. All of this combined will make the sword transition to a black blade.

King having a higher defense wouldn't be surprising. Enma couldn't cut King whereas it already cut Kaido. Plus like Kaido, King is from a specific race that are known as Gods. Without a doubt Kaido has a higher offensive power but defense I give it to King. The fact that advanced conquerers is needed to take on King already puts King on a whole other lvl.

Another fight worth mentioning is Zoro vs Hatchan. Not only is he the first time that Zoro fought another race that was supposedly superior to humans, but there is an important dialogue exchange during the fight. In ep. 39, Zoro tells Hatchan that his swords are heavier, to which Hatchan replies that his swords are over 300kg each. At the end of the fight Zoro asks Hatchan if he understands the difference in weight of the swords now. You talked about weight of swords being commented on and weight being analogous to will, and I think this is another clear example of Oda using this metaphor. Great vid btw

I think that black blades like Shusui actually have come alive by a deep relationship with a worthy swordsman like Ryuma (in a manner similar to the Going Merry’s Klabauterman) and henceforth actually exude their OWN haki and become permanently black. Living things can use haki after all according to Rayleigh..

haki is spirit/soul basically. used to fight in the one piece power system. so id phrase it as the sword having its own soul or will but as for a sword coating itself in haki, maybe itd be a worthy swordsman drawing the spirit out from the blade, rather than the blade coating itself if you get what i mean. but the process of making a black blade is described as "forging" over the course of many battles and so it seems like based on chapter 1033 where zoro's haki was lingering inside of and around enma, still being drained, that the blade will keep your haki or spirit for itself over time. thus you become a part of the blade. as for "cursed eye" theories, maybe the blade can also become a part of you

Zoro eye is part of his training so he can put twice the effort in each fight this way he can advance faster and I think he scared him self as part of a promise he made to open it only under crucial conditions

But what seems more plausible from a scientific standpoint, which could be explained with manga magic, though not possible in actuality; is if the composition of the blade itself changes in battle, as in how the crystalline structure of metal is altered slightly or significantly in forging, folding, tempering, annealing ect. The idea that battle itself acts upon the blade as one of those manufacturing acts would in real life.

I guess black blades are achieved when the user conquers the trust of the blade itself; when become totally one with the blade, to understand it and to master it. Black could be for the fact that haki is on them permanently like a sort of a strong bond that permits the user to use the max potential of his abilities and the blade to be at its peak. We got an hint by Ryuma, that got it after several battles. Also him especially after last chapter, gained the trust of his blade. That like the meito aren't cursed but just not for everyone but only for the capable ones that can tame them. So you tame the blade is a first step, then battle after battle it forges into a black one.

I believe cladding in conquerers is also the requirement for black blades. Not just constant battles. It would explain why only 2 people have done it. Sword God Ryuma & World's Strongest Swordsman Mihawk. Without a doubt they are conquerer users.

And now he had a flashback on Kozaburo and realizes Enma was created by him, next one will be on what Tenguyama said to him "you too can make them black".

Of course everybody has thought about this for some time but idk why everyone thinks all 3 of Zoro's blades will become black blades at the same time. As u said I don't believe Sandai stays with Zoro until the end so obviously that one isn't going to be a black blade. And Enma is still too new with Zoro to be a black blade yet. Wado Ichimonji will be the first one and the only blade in Wano to turn into a black blade. Look how many fights, near death experiences, and triumphs Zoro has had with Wado. It would belittle the impact of a blade becoming black if all 3 of Zoro's blades just became black at the same time even though some haven't had the time to make it seem feasible. Also if all 3 blades become black after Wano then what's left for Zoro to do until fighting Mihawk? It makes more sense if by the end of the story Zoro completes the three black blades one at a time than to just be sitting around for another 400 chapters before having actual stakes in the story.

Wow.another great video! Pirates had eye patches to keep 1 ready to see in the darkness of the deck (area inside the ship). Maybe Zoro has a new move that turns the area to full darkness. Then he switches eyes to see better. Maybe its more awesome than it sounds cuz were past the point of needing vision (observation haki). Maybe the power can only be used in that darkness. King has a light version of what big mom and kiado use the conquers Haki coating covering his body. If kiado and big mom are at a 10 king would be like a 5. So zoro unlocking the conquers haki coating on his swords is what’s needed to fight him, just like luffy and kiado s fight.
