There was a mass migration of Irish to the US between 1845 and 1849. Many adult males were pressed into the military. These battalions ended up fighting in Mexico during the war with Mexico. The Irish, mostly catholic, were treated badly in the US and found a common bond with the Mexican people. In great numbers the Irish deserted the US army ranks and joined with the Mexican Army. The Irish battalions fought valiantly against the US and had some great victories. After the war these Irish stayed in Mexico and laid down roots. They are honored in many ways throughout the country.

@@HueyPPLong Mestizos are part native and Irish were victims of anglo imperialism in Ireland which forced them to flee to America especially during the famine which was the same time period as the Mexican American war. @Yeet during the Mexican and USA war, the recently migrated Irish were being mistreated in the US and then were drafted to go fight the Mexicans. The Irish saw the Mexicans not as enemies but brothers since they were also Catholic and did not mistreat them. They actually ended up taking up arms with the Mexicans. In Mexico City they have a monument that commemorates our Irish brothers and every St. Patrick's day the Irish national anthem is played outside of the main town square

Nah the main inspiration is Joaquin Murrieta I literally just read the book, the orginal curse of Capistrano, the similarities are much more clear. (even if the real guy was basically taken into fiction) Especially with the lashings and false accusations. The irish are much more well known in New York, let them have Batman, let Cali keep Zorro, its literally the only cool thing they have. (and the Fallout NV Rangers)

Mexico is a english [latin] etymology 1780 meaning land of mixed people, the x replaces st in the spelling.
