One reason modern zoos usually display animals in naturalistic habitats (aside from whether the animals may or may not prefer it) is guest perception. We don't want people coming away with the idea that "Oh they're keeping that red panda in a building and it sure looks cute, I could keep one in my house so I want to buy one as a pet". Education departments also want guests to come away with the understanding that zoo animals are wild animals, and also are a part of/dependent on a larger environment; ultimately there is no species conservation without habitat conservation.

I'm so happy the lemurs were able to help SBZ survive! This habitat is HUGE and soo awesome. I love how the forest turned out and I really enjoy the little birds around the pond. 🐦

As a zookeeper student, I would love to read that research you were talking about at 11:15. As for the piles of hay you use for bedding. Elephants sleep on higher piles of sand because the can stand up easier when they sleep at an angle. I don't know if you can or want to add that in some of the pens, but it might be another way to add some realism. Thanks for another beautiful video.

Had this happen to my franchise zoo as well but they have all been returned recently! Logged in and nearly all my animals in my zoo were gone. This was also around the time when franchise was just beginning to have issues. I didn’t log back into that zoo for the majority of the time franchise was having issues until maybe a week or two ago and all my animals were returned back into my storage! Even allowed it to go over the storage limit as well! It was something like 208 back in my storage! Hoping they return back to you as well!

Unfortunately not, my contact at frontier confirmed that if they weren’t back already they wouldn’t be back. Luckily I’ve replaced ALL of them yesterday with my conservation credits!

The Elephant Forest looks great, I really love the extra details from the shelter to a transfer area the elephants can forage in. I know you said you got the idea from a South Korean Zoo, but it kind of reminded me of what Australia Zoo has for their Asian Elephants, where they have a display area, a back area, and in between is a stretch of woods they walk through to get from A to B. All around, looks like a great idea for elephants of any kind.

Amazing work as always. The Elephant forest looked amazing and definitely tied the whole design together. Are you planning on designing animal talk areas at some point? SBZ looks like the type of zoo that puts a lot of effort into making ethical habitats and I believe education and research would be their values as a company. Can't wait to see what you've got planned for the next habitat!

If you ever build a happitat for the giant pandas you have to look at the enclousure in copenhagen zoo. It is made as a yin and yang with the male living in one part and the female in one part and they can then make them come together when they try to make them to breed.

It’s funny I recently went to Chester but I think although I loved the zoo I think my expectations were highered due to their secret life of the zoo show but as soon as I went I didn’t think it was that great. My favourite zoo in the uk that I’ve been to is port lumpen it is honestly amazing if you go in the summer it is a slice out of Africa and Asia next to each other and in my zoos I always take so much inspiration from their savanna, but to be honest if you want to get the full experience (which you really do) get the AAA tour as you get to feed black rhinos, giraffes and have a full off-road almost personal tour of the zoo it is by far my favourite zoo in the uk but still San Francisco has to take the win for the world best

Unfortunately not, only if I grouped each item and saved it as a blueprint, and then you'd have to place every item whenever you wanted to use one of them

Is there a way to connect a habitat of 2 animals (eg zebras and giraffes) but make sure that the zebras don't go into the giraffe shelter? Like making separate areas for certain animals in a connected habitat.

If the animals are different sizes you can use scenery to do that, I did exactly that in the White Rhino video if you want to see how

So lets get this right. Because im watching this today, a year on etc… frontier lost your zoo, lost all your animals , you need credits to get more but they wouldnt “gift” you credits back to recoup what you lost, even with media credentials and favourite back hand comms etc? Utter disgusting.. im was watching this series because I was highly interested in buying planet zoo, then PC2 comes out and i held fire because of rumours of last PZ dlc and maybe PZ2 around the corner… and now i see PC2 has shocking quality issues with basic game failures (eg guests wont even queue for rides.. the very basic function) and now Frontier loose all your work and credit… and then force you to recoup your losses by doing more work.l NEVER heard of such ridiculous idiotic behaviour… the very least they could have done is handed out credits to the same value (at the very least) of what you lost
