Thank you for posting the GREAT video. For those like Me who do NOT have deep pockets, an overhaul is a little too much too late. If you are watching the video, the HORSES are already OUT, Closing the gate is now Shameful. (A Texas saying) I realize mower companies NEVER want you to fix anything, Just keep buying new. Well, my new mower cost as much as a CAR, and it does not have a drain plug either. It is VERY disgusting a company like HYDRO-GEAR would also jump in line to "SCREW the Customer"! Kawasaki, Brigs & Stranton, Kohler, and others at least have an OIL drain on the small engines too. Okay, so only the $10,000.00 and up mowers have a serviceable transmission, at LEAST put a $3.00 drain on the bottom so we can at least change the fluid when we put several hours on them. That is NOT that much to ask.

My left 5400 transmission is making an extreme growling in hard forward, like if I am in a uphill situation and especially trying to turn right. In reverse it makes no noise, no matter what I am doing. Normal operation and speed and steering on flat ground. Any idea what could be causing the extreme noise? It has less than 300 hrs and filter and oil changed every year. I just changed them 2 hrs ago and it is still doing it.

thanks a lot for posting this! but i noticed the planetary gears didn't seem to be engaged to the axle shaft, only to the outer ring gear...?

Hello the motor input turns the sun gear (tiniest gear) as the input. the largest gear with internal teeth (Ring gear, annulus gear) is anchored to the machine housing so it doesn't move. The output of the gear set is the planet carrier. Since a little gear is turning a larger gear (carrier) the output will have a gear reduction. Sacrifices input speed for output torque. The ring gear is stationary and provides a surface for the planetary carrier pinions to react off of. Hold one of the 3 components from moving. Drive the second one and the last remaining gear is the output.

Does it have a drain plug so it wont sludge up and fail at 180 hours like those tuff torq sealed ones? Beautiful animation by the way. Gorgeous.

My Hydro Gear has a fill plug at the top and no drain plug. You have to pull the whole transaxle out to change the oil. Mine went for 15 years mowing acreage until I changed the oil and it's still doing just fine. Not that I recommend that, even good oil will be expired after half that time.

Of cores NOT. companies can Not Rip you off by making you buy another new part or NEW mower. In America, ONLY the "Higher Ups" are the ones who SCREW the little man know this. Why put a $3.00 drain plug on a transmission, when you can sell the poor Buyer another NEW mower or transmission. VERY DISGUSTING business practice.

@@lloydmorrison5979 the zt-5400 DOES have a drain plug, it also has an external oil filter and an easy accessible fill tank. The ones without a filter or drain plug are the ezt versions.

Sorry forgot the link. Search for variable displacement piston pump . I believe the flow to the drive pump does push on the cylinder block like fan blades. Once this block spins then the tiny pistons will move up and down. Or it could be the pistons move first which then causes the rotation of the drive pump. Cant find good video showing it.

I have had difficulty locating parts lists on transmission parts for the Yardman hydro trans. Is there a good source for specs for the cylinders and piston measurement values and parts availability?
@jajawga12 жыл бұрын
the pump is driven by the engine, the swash plate in the pump is controlled by the direction control of the driver, forward/reverse, the pressure created in the cylinders of the pump is transferred to the motor where the opposite will take place, the motor will start to turn to release the pressure now in the cylinders of the pump,
@jajawga12 жыл бұрын
just think of two cylinder connected by a tube at the bottom, if you force the fluid down in one cylinder it will rise in the other; hard to imagine how the rotation is created in the motor, but because the swash plate is at an angle, the cylinder will move up the swash plate to release the pressure hence causing rotational movement. Hope this helps?

So perfectly simple but I bet they like to be clean and sterile

You ask very good questions and this video does not really help with that. Here is another video but it too does not do a great job at showing where the fluid applies its pressure. The motor of the lawnmower spins that series of tiny pistons on a plate that can be angled. They move up and down which creates pressure in one direction (depends on angle of plate) this flow then hits the cylinder block in the drive pump which rotates like turbine blades.

I will never buy another tractor that uses a hydro EZT (or similar) transmission. They fail and changing the center part is tedious and doesn't last long.
@mickistout847710 жыл бұрын
I think this would work on a tracked vehicle.

I just replaced the center assembly on my EZT hydro and had no idea how the actual hydraulics worked until I saw this video. I still have loss of power, so the next step is to replace both of the piston blocks. This video explains the rotation in better detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXy0n5iqaK50ldU
