Usually I would get annoyed with transfer dealings like these. Last season was saved by how incredible Endo was. This season, I can't give a rats @s about Zubimendi. Slot ball is looking great and I reckon he is delighted to be working with this squad Klopp has built. His ideas about football will be even more bought out by this Liverpool team.

We need a world class 6. Zubemendi is loyal to Real Sociedad, can't hate that. But LFC has failed in this transfer window. All these months and they have failed to sign a world class 6. We have Salah, VVD and Trent of all people looking at resigning for huge wage packets or running down their contract, we've been asleep at the wheel. MacAllister can be a 6 but he is more lethal taking us forward in central mid.

@@Justmemes551 well they ain't exactly gonna be saying that "we really still need to sign one" and then be held to ransom now are they. Patience is needed. We might yet see one arriving. They might have lined one up in case this went badly, but I would expect that would have become a more expensive option now. I think we should give the players that we have the opportunity to show what they can do to deliver Slot's vision for the team. Hopefully Alexis will not be used too much in the 6 position though. Maybe Endo will get a better grip on what Arne wants him to do, or one of the others might suddenly show their mettle for the role.

You are absolutely correct that patience is key but bare in mind there’s at least 3 weeks till the transfer window closes. We literally shrunk a 3 month transfer window to a 3 weeks transfer window ONLY IF we are doing transfers but for now its none. Since fabinho left we suffer so bad from season to season to come and the board is down to give up on that crucial role signing. So for me tbh i can’t see it mate, they been selling us dreams

People have short memory. We did a similar (not identical) thing with VVD. When Southampton accused us of player tapping (laughable at this age), we didnt bought another CB,cause we knew we ONLY wanted VVD. And then we got VVD and was a success. I guess this time we will not go back at January for Zubi but the mindset is the same. We dont prioritize buying players above our own players! And I prefer this than being Chelsea! And we have Endo,Graven,Bajcetic and McConnell. Add then Jones,Elliot,Mac Allister,Szobo,Nyoni. These are 9 players for 3 spots!!! I will not say no to a world-class number 6,or any "number",but since there is no available option right now,I prefer to keep the money and play what we have!

Agree with your predictions. I'm not devastated by our lack of signings - I think the squad is in a great place, they looked very sharp in pre-season and I think Slot will unlock new levels out of some players like Gravy. There's no need to rush into signings now when we are at the start of his tenure - let's wait and see if we can get somebody world class in January when Slot has had a good 6 months with the team. HOWEVER - what really does concern me is STILL NO NEW CONTRACTS for VVD, Trent and Salah. They will be looking around at the lack of signings, lack of ambition by the club (once again) and it will influence their decision on re-signing. I can see us losing VVD as he has already been vocal about the club needing new signings. I can see Salah running down his contract with a mega final year before leaving a club legend. Maybe its cope but the only one I can see resigning is Trent... and even that is risky. He could definitely be turned by Madrid which would be devastating. My only hope is that - if VVD does leave - they can give Trent a new contract as club captain of his boyhood club. That might be enough to persuade him to stay.

Pretty much my exact feelings. After it came out we were interested in Zubimendi I said to my fiance that if I didn't see him leaning within 48 hours it wasn't getting done. Disappointing, especially considering we haven't got a Plan B target, but also understandable. I'm more worried about the VD, Trent, and Salah contract situations.

Gravenberch would struggle at 6, Macca will be the one playing again with Endo rotating. Slotball would not be in full effect, Jota would rotate with Nunez with the latter getting less game time, Gakpo will finally flourish. Elliott's having his best season with us. Quansah will drop off by December and Konate to take over. Bradley will start 10 league games for us. Salah to have more assists than NPgoals.

Agree, I didn't get the massive hype. But he did look like he was going to be a tidy player. Am I devastated? No. Bajcetic stays. Gravenberch can do it. Endo will eventually adapt. While I agree with you in general that we ‘can’t really blame FSG as he changed his mind in the last moment’, I do feel FSG got outplayed by Sociedad. After some reflection, here is what I think happened: 1. LFC approach Zubimendi through various channels to gauge temperature which would have been hot but not a boiling ‘yes’ for the move 2. Sociedad panic and leak the 1st Ornstein update from Tue to weaken LFC’s position 3. LFC react and reveal they are indeed talking to Zubimendi - Ornstein’s Wed update. Still not boiling ‘yes’ from player 4. News from Thu and Fri was all about ‘Zubi will probably move’, ‘LFC trying to negotiate a higher fee to avoid paying release close in full in a single payment’. During this time, Sociedad play along to buy time and take Zubimendi for preseason friendly 5. Weekend comes and Sociedad go on a massive charm offensive, offer better terms, pull emotional strings. Tone of journalist updates starts to swing to ‘Zubi has to decide, it’s tough for him to leave his boyhood club’ 6. Sun night LFC react and say they want Zubi and ‘will pay whatever it takes’ - in other words they agree to pay release clause 7. Mon morning Sociedad say player has to activate buyout clause further complicating matter and effectively making the player seem the devil if he chose to leave 7. Mon evening Zubimendi says NO Overall, I think LFC played right into Sociedad’s hands and made one CRUCIAL MISTAKE: they did NOT immediately activate the release clause on Wed as part of the 2nd Ornstein update. Instead they tried negotiating on fee Thu-Fri which brought Sociedad enough time to get Zubimendi to change his mind I guess lesson learned for the penny punchers FSG and hope they rectify this blunder over the next 3 weeks

My predictions for the season : Nunez - 20+ G, 10+ A , he'll finally break the 20 goal barrier across all competitions, he'll improve after the int'l break because he isn't match fit, yet. We play 3 games a week at times and he'll get his chance. Jota - if he stays fit and a big if, another 20+ G, 5+ A, Across all competitions, else 10+ G as always Gakpo and Diaz - 15+ G, Gakpo will get more assists than Diaz. Salah might not be the top scorer but will likely be the top assister for the team with Jota or Nunez taking the top spot (at one time last season they both were in the running so not far fetched) . Endo will have amazing moments during dead rubber matches and fixture congestion matches. Gravenberch and Szoboszlai will have vastly improved seasons. Van Dijk most likely will leave at the end of the season, Trent will stay, Not sure about Salah. Elliott will get to the 15+ G/A mark. We will score a lot of goals and be similar to the 17/18 season and Last season where we scored 142 goals across all competitions.. How we defend in crunch games, needs to be seen.

Here’s where I am , I wanted him no doubt my lads knew more about football stats tactics etc they rated him . But I had been thinking when it started to stall I got to thinking why do we always do these awkward deals and I began to realise he was a home boy so the thought crossed my mind also that if Zub did hit the ground running if he killed it Real Madrid would have been in next season or the following and it would be Coutinho all over again . Is it ok, if I say that I am not entirely disappointed with not signing a no.6 in this window? I am more concerned with Salah, VVD and Trent deals to be signed and if that happens before January, then we are good. We need a no.6 for the Klopp system but we have enough mf to cover up for Slot...this whole build up play is different.. Endo who was massive under Klopp sticks out like sore thumb under Slot(not Endo's fault..the man still is a legend) . We played two teams on Sunday and if we can keep those players without selling anyone else, I think Slot will have a good 6 months to evaluate them ,and then target January 2025...If buying players is the solution for everything then Chelsea should have won the quadruple by now...
