Katara was the first person (aside from his mother and uncle Iroh) to see the good and compassion that Zuko encompassed. "thEy'Re nOt EveN rEaAL" yeah but- one of the many things that Avatar taught me was the importance of representation, and Zutara is probably the best representation of "Love triumphs all". Unfortunately, it was an opportunity missed....

I absolutely agree. I'm sorry to say this, but Kataang doesn't give me much...it's just a linear and plain love relationship, whereas Zutara would have had a much deeper meaning: from hatred to forgiveness and to, eventually, love. So beautiful. Dreams apart, they could have at least developed Kataang better or even avoid any kind of romance between the characters, since the show was already great and inspiring...but it could have been even greater with a main couple up to the series standards 😕

i think that simply the storyline of betrayal was too much for katara's character. she always loved stability. how many traumatic relationships she had been through? she definitely had a spark for zuko though. the ending scene really depicted their attraction, betrayal, angst and finally friendship.

Yes, they were close, yes they cared deeply for one another but it wasn't enough to equate it to what zutara could've been. Because the show ended at season 3. Aaron Ehasz (head writer if Avatar) has mentioned his plans for a season 4 and it included fleshing out Zuko and Katara’s friendship/relationship. Ehasz was also a supporter for the Zutara ship but unfortunately he was overruled by the two producers Bryan and Mike who were in favour of Kataang.

"When you're not here to get me through it all" The gaping hole they left in each other after the crossroads of destiny is evident. Katara was so hurt because of his betrayal of her emotions, and he was hurt because he let go the one person who really understood her. "I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug" Exactly how Katara feels when Zuko betrayed her- he was the first person who understood and related to her trauma, who helped her. This song quite literally, defines their relationship.

This is just what I think. It may not be true. I think that Zuko did love Kurata. I mean, he saved her life... two times. He would rather die than let her die. "This way no one has to get hurt." He knew he could win with Azula like that, crazy. Even if he wasn't sure he didn't want to risk Kurata's safety. He stayed up all night, probably thinking of what he could do to make her not hate him, outside her tent waiting for her. He helped her let go of the anger and pain by finding the guy who killed her mother, but he's not stupid. He knows that Angg liked Kurata, and he probably thought that Angg would be better for Kurata. I heard a quote that said, "The only guy who deserves you, is the one who thinks he dosn't." I feel like Zuko thought he didn't deserve Kurata. Also even though he gets with Mai, he names his daughter Izumi which means "water". Which I believe he names her that because he still, deep down, has feelings for Kurata. Even if he doesn't know it himself. That is just what I think. You don't have to think the same thing.

Hoe many times has she said "let's do this" or "let's not do that" to Aang for him to do the opposite and she turned out to be right? Zuko is willing to hear Katara out and listen to her. Example, he asked her ehy she was angry. She told him. And he went out of his way to help her. He also doesn't give up when he goes through emotional difficulty. Something Aang has done timr and time again. Aang is only 12 so I do give him some leeway in terms of immaturity but if this behavior carries on into adulthood, he is definitely not a good partner.

i think,,,, the reason why Zuko wasnt with Katara was because he believed he wasnt good for her. he had MAJOR insecurity issues, and he hated almost everything he did with Mai. you can see he desperately needed something to hold on to, so when Mai helped him with getting away, he realized she was someone he could have clung to. thats why he didnt end up with Katara. ugh it makes me so mad!!!!
