This zone was the embodiment of desperation. Imagine a people killing its own gods to survive an invasion that they've been slowly losing for decades.

The music is reflecting hopelessness for me. A destined downfall. The Loa combined with the Trolls wont be able to fend of the Scourge and if the Trolls make Loa Smoothie, it basically will only last a little bit longer but will fall as well
@skirdus3675 жыл бұрын
God, I remember the Drak'tharon entrance to this zone just being full of ice trolls screaming in terror and running for their lives from the horrors up ahead. Truly, this zone was the definition of hopelessness

because you have fond memories and experiences attached to the game, when you hear the music which is good in its own right it triggers that feeling of nostalgia which is perhaps the most powerful sense of joy. See after years Im not sure wow is worth playing anymore because its basically just interactive math, theres no real skill to it once the game is figured out and then it just becomes a chore to go through. While i have very fond memories of wow i dont think i can ever go back.

I really like the desolate and empty feeling from this piece of music, the bit with the bell at the beginning is like echoes, fits the zone perfectly

*That* exactly is the main problem with WOW: the actual gameplay doesn't measure up to the level of its design and music. In other words, the castle looks lovely from the outside, but there's nearly nothing to do inside it.

Zul Drak is one of those zones that really hit me emotionally. You see the effects of the Scourge unfolding in real time. An ancient and powerful civilization, the layers of a deep fortress being penetrated as the trolls are overwhelmed. Their fellow Drakkari turning into horrifying monsters. All while foreign enemies stab them in the back. It's the definition of an apocalypse. Their Gods have failed them. No prayers, rituals or traditions can save them. All of their might has failed. One of the oldest civilizations in Azeroth being ripped apart before your eyes. And you see their desperation - sacrificing their loas, stealing that power to get any edge they can. Fighting with ferocity to take down a necropolis, send forth their best warriors....but all for not...

LOL this place is my favorite zone of Northrend because of the music, it fits perfectly with everything in that place.
@koalabunga13 жыл бұрын
@fealmor I love Zul Drak too :) mainly the irony behind its story. Trolls sacrificed their gods to become powerful enough to defend themselves becoming equally disgusting and dangerous like the Scourge they were trying to fend off. In result they destroyed their own culture, desecrated their land and grown power hungry just like the Lich King who, having nothing else to do, just kept increasing his power and extending his reign over an empty kingdom and literally empty people...

@epic spaceman You won't find any Aztec pyramids in Guatemala, though. The Aztecs lived in modern-day Mexico. Guatemala and surrounding lands were Maya-dominated. While the pyramids built by both civilizations are architecturally similar, the cultures themselves are not.

It's nice to read a comment on KZbin that's informative and correct. Thanks. If the person had said "Meso-American" instead of "Aztec," there would be no objection.

exactly. from north to south Aztec-Maya-Inca(Peru) , on a side note I kinda feel a little inspiration from the Cambodian ruins as well
@lvsoad225 жыл бұрын
DarkRaven4649 the cultures were definitely similar it is not really up for debate that the Aztecs took a lot from the Mayans or at the very least they both were separate parts of a culture that had existed there before either of them. But yes, they were separate cultures from different time periods.

@fealmor Aztecs capital city Tenochtitlan was situated right under Mexico City so Mexican culture is in fact the Aztec culture. As to the question, which culture Zul Drak is, I would say it is closer to the Maya but thats only because I have only attended to the Maya religion course yet. As far as I know, every pyramid tried to resemble a nearby sacred mountain and every pyramid was built like a mountain with an inner structure inside which served as a cave. I study religions btw :)

How to explain this: I hated it and enjoyed it at same time. I loved the music. I liked following the dk lore. I enjoyed doing the starting quests in that zone until I started doing the dailies later on. I hated it. I didn't enjoy doing the quests in the snow side of ZD either.
