Is there a reason for some shields being round and others being oval?

Round shields are used mostly by bhaca, chunu and other clans across Uthukela river all the way to the South Coast. Oval shields are used by the people from KZN midlands all the way to the south African border. Both are Zulu but have slight variations in terms of weapons, traditional attire and warfare methods.....
