I actually work at a vans store and I can tell you that vans truly does not give any thought into what they put out in terms of their shoe products. we get so many new shoes every month that look absolutely disgusting that nobody buys and gets sent to the outlets within months. 99% of the time people are just going to buy black white old skools or checkerboard slip ons. actually crazy.

I faithfully rode Vans from 1990 to 2017. From 1996 to around 2000, Vans was in real trouble. Nobody wanted to ride for them, they were an afterthought in the shoe market and they were just following the trend of tech-y and puffy shoes you would see from DC, eS, Osiris or Axion. But Vans shoes were so damn ugly, they would not sell. It was so difficult at times to get a pair of Half Cabs, Chukka boots or 36s (what is now referred to as Skate Lo's) because neither shops nor mail order companies would carry them since they were not in demand. They were saved by Geoff Rowley, his best-selling pro model(s) and his insistence on focusing on simpler shoes. Now, they are selling shoes everywhere to everyone. But, they can't complain about losing their "F You attitude" when you can see women in their mid-40s in a pair of 38s (Skate Hi's) as they look at flooring in Home Depot.

I skated Vans slip on Pros. Size 9. For 8 years. I religiously skated the same shoe and I was happy. Until last year when they rebranded to the “skate” division. They changed the shape and the sole and I had to change to a different shoe. I’ve been skating the lakai Owen slip on now and I’m pretty content but I’m pissed that they changed.

yep the re-vamp completely has me off the old feel the original sk8-high and some leather upper/pig suede upper authentic/old skools....which were OG to the actual stuff ppl skated back in the day.....now you cant even have that classic boardfeel smdh. At least when emerica changed to cup-sole they sold the OG laced for a while and i understand Soletech is their main distro. Ive tried other vans too like the versa/alex olson collab, or the rowley squared as some of their non vulc options in the past, like the ethan fowler pros way back. But the whole "Swap" to "skate classic" bummed me out even as a driving shoe the new sk8 high sucks for pedal feel compared to a worn down/broken in og vans shoe. Though they look like they cost a lil more now and do last longer...to me their weight in gold was that vulc/waffle board feel/flex. I dont even fit into the new slip-ons anymore way too snug/tight and stiff on sole. Im running g6 slips now as my non high/mids...looks like most of the emerica guys honestly RUN the slip ons or laced g6.
