I think Amy singing your song is the highest honor a songwriter could have. She had impeccable taste and the extraordinary talent to back it up. She knew a great groove to vamp on when she heard one. Valerie was an obvious choice for her.

Sometimes a song is more than just a catchy tune to sell, and when you set it free it becomes an everlasting standard. I would not have known who the Zutons were if it weren't for Amy, and I think many others would say the same thing. I think they are basically admitting that in this interview, and that is why they are gracious enough to appreciate other artists like Amy for covering their song and bringing popularity back to them. They'd rather share the song and be known than own it and be unknown.

If you aren't fair enough, but surely any listener of music who is worth their salt actually bothers to look up the origin of songs Especially ones that were clearly written by a man for a woman, and who's version were created by Mark Ronson, who is notorious for stealing other artists music and trying to pass it off as his own. That's right, it's a Mark Ronson version, Amy just did the vocals. Sure you could say it is a cover, but he doesn't go out of his way to let listeners know

Mark wanted her to adjust the lyrics for her version, but she was adamant about preserving the original lyrics. I think that's cool. The stripped down version on her album is excellent, but of course i love the original the most.

The song 'Valerie' was a OK song to begin with, not a genius song. AN OK song. Fair enough that they let just about every Winehouse & his dog cover it. ZUtons would get good royalty checks for that, which they would love, (dont let them fool you). It pisses me off that the song has been so destroyed by covering artists. Now as a result, I dont think this band will ever do anything better, or be remembered for anything better. Because they've put all there eggs in the 1 basket.
