The way Riven animation cancel works is: Q -> Movement Command -> Auto Attack You have to cancel the animation of your Q by a Movement Command, this removes the AnimationTime of your next Auto Attack. The minimum time between individual Q‘s is around 0.5s - similar to the minimum time for a fast Q-W combo. One gotta develop a rhythm and get a feel for it, there is a sweetspot for both.

Most important thing for Riven, before worrying about animation canceling, is to always be using your Q, especially if youre looking for an engage and just wait to recast until just before it expires. It makes your cooldown after last q at lvl 1 about 4 seconds, and makes the cooldown essentially zero after lucidity boots, so you can E ->Q3->auto->W every time and have your first Q back up to full spam while the enemy is stunned in your W. I think on a lot of your 1v3 engages out of a bush you would have lived if you used q1 and q2 with a bit of delay between them while hiding in the bush, it lets you engage with your knockup to avoid getting CCed and you can do the full q spam on the way out because the cooldown is back up.

For the Riven game and the auto attacking, I think you're supposed to click to walk the opposite direction of your target then click or A click the target. You spin around and auto immediately. Again, not sure.

yes there is a buffer on riven auto cancels you can't instant auto, but they are still auto cancels and add a bit of dps, when you were doing them on the tower at the end, that is best you can do basically.

I think that Glowing Mote has really messed with the gold efficiency of ability haste, and that even though GE is a flawed metric that's not an excuse to make it even *more* flawed.
