I bought two 4RR's , one for him and one for her as featured on my channel. In my case, I have been pondering the issue as well and decided to use the bike as intended in factory form until the warranty runs out, AKA make it sing at 16k. If the problem has not presented itself by then, I am assuming it should be safe to flash the ECU. At the moment, like you said, it is a UNICORN and there is nothing like it out there.

Greetings from Australia. I recently bought the 40th anniversary edition. Smooth sailing so far. We have the full power version, as does the rest of the world i think. No engine issues reported here so far although most riders are aware of the issues. As you rightly say Kawasaki needs to make a statement on this as so far, as far as i know nobody has crashed when the engine has let go but the thought of the engine letting go while powering out a corner and back wheel locking dont bare thinking about. As you said & i agree, i didnt buy a 400cc four to potter about under 6000rpm and Kawasaki surely knew and expected these would be ridden hard at very high rpm. I just hope they address the issue before somebody is spat off, injured or worse

As a factory car mechanic and getting TSBs for stuff like this. We don't fret at all about the issues. If a customer is an insomniac over the machine. He's half the problem. Machines are machines and we make money even when they break. I knew of these issues on this motor but bought it anyway. I went with the 5 year oem warrantee. And trust me HONDA has problems too. In their car division, warrantee is RARELY used. "Hey ITS A HONDA'. YOU BROKE IT. We're not warranteeing it. Relax. Tip the service writer and ask for the best mechanic in the shop. A box of donuts won't hurt. Jeez.

Currently i am not worried, i do wonder if this is maybe related to people blipping down and over revving the engine but I am happy with my zx4r and currently confident with using it, but I am definitely keeping my eye on this issue.

It would be nice if you could just order the foreign ECU that will make power to 14k.

That would be amazing. I had a Ducati Streetfighter a while back and the upgraded exhaust came with a performance ECU that didn't void your warranty. If Kawi could only do that.

For all those who have a zx4r or rr, after 13k miles I noticed the low oil problem. I am in the process of doing the 15k service as I have more than that. The oil leak seems to be the valve cover and the gaskets on the bolts that hold the gasket down. Also make sure that the alternator cover isn’t leaking as that recall involved a gasket as well. Hope this helps.
