Zylinderhaus in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany, is a carmuseum that was established in 2017. It is a three-storey museum with several other objects from the last century on display as well. These are arranged here and there in the building. Sometimes behind a shop window of a reconstructed German street from the last century and sometimes stored behind glass in showcases. On the various walls you can see pictures of the cars and the emblems of the brands. It all looks very nice and tidy.
Zylinderhaus has a collection of more than 100 cars that were all made in Germany, between roughly 1925 and 2010. Only exception are three Steyrs from Austria. You can find the cars on floor 1 and 3. Floor 2 has motor-cycles on display and a 1950s Borgward Isabella in a movie theatre setting. It’s the only car in the museum you can touch, or better, the only one you can step into. Floor 3 is the main exhibition hall. Here you can find cars of brands like BMW, Borgward, Audi, DKW, IFA, Dixi, Steyr, Wartburg, NSU, Horch, Wanderer, VW, Lloyd, Tornax and Hansa. Via your smartphone you can retrieve information about the individual cars. Floor 1 has several Mercedes-Benz and Opel’s on display and even a very rare Bitter SC. If you are in the neighborhood, be sure to check out this neat museum as well. It’s worthwhile to visit.
