Back in 1977, at a Holiday Inn in Fargo, ND, I was drumming for a touring Top 40 dance/lounge band. In the middle of our third set, all three members of ZZ Top walked into the bar. They had been gigging at the local arena-type venue. Our band did acceptable versions of La Grange and Tush, but the leader decided, for whatever reason, not to call them. Instead of getting my plea to open with La Grange, I got to sit with all three of the boys between those two sets. A real dream come true since I had at least two of their albums on the road with me and I loved their music. Sensational band. Superb group of gentlemen. RIP Dusty.

I've loved ZZ Top since the beginning. Saw Moving Sidewalks '69 in my hometown at Kukral Center CYO dance. Don't get me wrong but the last 4 times I saw them, I was really disappointed. It seems that Billy has in his mind that he can get up there and play a version of a song we all have been used to hearing and he plays it in a way that doesn't even come close to sounding the way that rocked us, doesn't even sound like the same song, took that special "feeling" right out of it. And one time I saw them they had just come out with a new album, and didn't play one song from it. Didn't play even one of their biggest songs beside La Grange. Frank is a bad man on the kit.

Yeah, his kit is mic'ed really well....and whomever is on the soundboard is doing a phenomenal job. I wonder if Frank is playing Ludwig drums here (if not, then what brand?) I do love the sound of some nicely mic'ed and engineered drums!

@@KevinatorPhase1 If Wikipedia is anything to go by, Frank currently uses Tama Starclassic Maple drums and Paiste cymbals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZZ_Top_equipment#Drums Hard saying what he was using in this video, but it's probable that he could answer if you reached him via one of the methods online.

Something bout ZZ top just gets to my soul, it's like they know exactly what music is my favorite. Jimmi Hendrix even said Billy G was the best guitar player he knew

This is proof you have to be cool to play this song the right way. (not bonamassa) And what about the drumming, Texas sure brought us some awesome drummers!
