Very beautiful! Am I right in understanding that Okte used fewer frets (43) than Necdet Yasar, and more left-hand pull-offs and hammer-ons? And his students, Batanay and Aksut do the same? I apologise for not speaking or reading the Turkish language.

yes sir,but Ercumend Batanay was student of Mesud Cemil Bey,who was also Necdet Yasar's master. But Izzeddin Okte had influenced Ercumend Batanay so much, technically you are right.

@@emreonay2314 Thank you, Emre. I appreciate you comment! It would be wonderful to have a history in English of all these players. I have to use Google Translate, which is too “creative”…

@@RobMacKillop1 unfortunately there is even no Turkish book about these tanbur virtuosos :/.Only memories from their living friends, some newspaper articles and vintage weekly radio magazines...

@@emreonay2314 That’s a great pity. These were all great musicians.

There is a small documentary with İzzeddin Ökte, on youtube, an interview. As far as I can bring back, mainly he got his music lessons and “musical taste” at Yenikapı Mevlevihane, as a real dervish I guess. Doing sema/whirling. He had a relative who was maybe a musician or a Shaykh/leader at Yenikapı. A mevlevihane, was a hub for all musicians back then, without an religious distinction. So he was grewing up at the center of music, from his very young age. He says from his own words that this such rhytmicality of his taksims/improvisations maybe are due to the whirlings he did at sufi ceremonies. Like this.. Then he became a radio artist and worked with mesud cemil.. These are what I can bring back. Of course there is more. I hope these were enjoyable for you. Best wishes..
