I will break down my interpretation of the details of the video in case anyone was wondering what happened prior to the ring fighting. So Lighter served in some sort of Mercenary unit who he considered his family and cherished. Somewhere along the way though, they were either all killed or injured forcing them to retire. I would assume for sure that the beanie wearing man with the child perished. This lead Lighter to go to the mob and get 50,000,000 Dennies with a debt contract he has to uphold. He immediately gave this money from the contract to that little girl we see and I assume to be that beanie mans daughter now orphaned. In order to pay off his debts, Lighter entered the ring and used his winnings to pay it down. By winning the championship, the last of his debt would be settled. We see the rest play out in the video and his counter for his debt falls to zeroes, then shifting to Lighter as he is effectively "punched out" EDIT: A few people pointed out a few things so I have edited the above comment and I will also address a few things too now that we have more information from Lighters Story Quest in 1.3. It sheds some light on things. 1. His loan was 50,000,000 Dennies. This makes more sense as a figure because Lighter comments in this 1.3 update Story Quest that he took that debt to support ALL of their families, not just the little girl orphaned. 2. Lighter was present on the mission that killed his comrades, he did not stay behind like one commenter suggested. Turns out Lighter was the one leading the mission and his actions/decisions lead to their demise. He blames himself for this result. 3. Lighter did not actually just to enter the ring of his own accord. Due to his contract, he was forced to work the debt off. The owner of his contract chose that avenue and he decided to go along with it willingly rather than entering out of self motivation. 4. One thing I am unsure of at present and may actually be a current plot hole is that Lighter in 1.3 states that Big Daddy paid off his debts and gave him his red scarf that serves as his moniker. This seems to contradict that of the EP video. Showing that he fought and earned every Denny to pay off the debt in its entirety. Lighter states that without Big Daddy's help, he'd still be there fighting. My only thought for this one is that the EP events occurred prior to Big Daddy helping him and Lighter took on even more debt after the EP. Possibly to help the families even more. I think this might be the most logical answer due to a discussion that Lighter has with Belle/Wise. He tells them that he wears his sunglasses because of an injury he sustained in the ring to his eyes while fighting. It made him very light sensitive from then on and for a while he had to spend all his time in the dark while recovering. He has worn them since then. In the EP however, his vision seems fine and he is not once seen wearing sunglasses. I think because of this, we can assume that Big Daddy's intervention and subsequent recruitment to The Sons of Calydon happened a good bit after this EP

He couldn't go on that mission due to his injuries and that was the mission where they all perished. Needless to say he must have felt guilty for not being with them
