I saw my first C5 in person when I was 18....needless to say, I fell in love. Never thought I would own one. Back in 2021, and thanks to a convertible Mustang, Covid and my Dad's encouragement, I bought one and I've never looked back. Last year was a 6000 mile road trip through the Black Hills, Pikes Peak, Las Vegas and Yellowstone... this year she's taking us to the Canadian Rockies...

I still remember my step dad's (he was a letter carrier in Oakland, CA) orange T2 VW bus back in the 80's and early 90's untill the rear sliding door flew off one day while we were driving on the freeway... Luckily no one was hurt! 😳 It was more of a yellow orange color but faided and had exactly the same shaggy carpet inside as this! lol. Personally, I like the look of type 1 over type 2 but both are now rarely seen on the road. My step dad's VW bus wasn't all that strong but it had good high clearance. It was loud, the engine sometimes smoked and he'd have to rev it up for more then 20 minutes on cold mornings and usually at least 10 minutes other times. It would always wake me up early in the morning but I knew it was him leaving for work!

I have had a T2 westfalia for 17 years ..total spent .new exhaust.£300 apart from that nothing..looked recently at a newer T5 unfortunately due to maintenance costs of the new campers I've decided to stick to the old classic..easy maintenance low cost on parts goes forever if maintained

So how did you come up with that math? lol Check again bruh. If you bought the car 4 years ago and that’s a 2001 ( releases 2000 ) how is it a 20 year old car ?

I got my c5 Z06 from my grandma its got a lil bit high miles cuz she drove it everywhere it means the world to me i have so many memories in that car i think about her everytime i drive it miss u grandma ty for everything

I just replaced my axle seals, and I feel your pain on that dust shield. First i put it on backwards, then upside down. Soooo yeah. By the third time I was inventing curse words. lol

you should use a primer so the paint will stick better

after paint is dry use 100 grit paper on a small piece of wood to lightly sand corvette letters

The plastic fantastic, and those early seats are so cool. Like fighter jet seats wrapped in lipstick red leather.

That 403 engine only made about 180 hp stock, BUT, the potential for a lot more hp is there. The 403 is a good strong engine. You just have to go old school with it. Take all that smog crap out. It needs to breathe. Put in a bigger cam. Performance intake manifold. Headers and dual exhaust with performance mufflers. Tweak the Quadrajet. Maybe even a set of performance heads. I dont know what the rear gear is on these is, but a 3.73 would be perfect. Then, put a shift kit in that turbo 350 trans. That's how you wake up these old late 70s sleepers. She'll run like a whole new car.

Great color combo and a lovely car, not a bad angle on it IMHO, however, I needed useable rear seats so I bought a Maserati GranTurismo S which can seat adults in the rear seats, has about the same power and 6 speeds so 0-60 and 1/4 mile are quicker and faster. It also looks great and can be had for 1/2 the price than a 2nd hand 456. 🔱🔱🔱 Win Maserati!!

Great review. I agree with everything u said. I have a 2011 grandsport convertable. Ppl are too hard on the interior,I've been in a ferrari 308 and Lamborghini countache. The interior on those cars are craptastic. I love my grandsport. I have accessories he doesn't have but these cars are timeless. I get stares from ppl and ppl ask me all the time about my corvette. Yes I'm 55, but not my midlife crisis car. My third corvette, I also had a mazda rx7, a triumph tr7,mazda rx7 c4 corvette and a c5 corvette.

Old stuff with a lot of miles just sucks.

Don't be fooled. You may be able to buy a 456 for $50k, but you'll spend that amount again over 5 years of ownership. Maintenance will be ruinous.

On the 7.3 the brake booster assists the power steering which is why you loose both at the same time. It also uses ATF which is why you had that smell.
