I'm learning to play the harp but listening to this gives me the same feeling when guitarists seeing Hendrix for the first time ❤️

Big Walter is the most underrated blues harp master of his generation. Anyone who wants to take up this instrument must listen to Walter Horton. He had what I call quiet creativity. Not flashy or full of stage personality but technically and musically a rock. His tone was all his own and like Rice Miller he had huge hands that created a cavern of fluctuation. He is essential essential essential essential

Essence. "What it is " Big Walter's got this. " The blues is fun ! " Charlie M once said to me, and you didn't play a wrong chord. Rock Bottom had his ears out. He did another gig the night before at the same time. A blues festival in Norway. <3

Had the honor to drum for Big Walter many nights. He was so great... and a real character!
@manonymous47373 ай бұрын
Indeed! You are the drummer on Fine Cuts! It's an honour to virtually meet you! Walter Horton is easily my favourite harmonica player, I know typing is annoying but please! do you have a good story to tell about him?
@terrybiii30422 ай бұрын
@@manonymous4737 Big Walter was really into early morning game shows. When we were staying at the band house together in Rochester I was often awakened by Big Walter yelling at the television... "You fool" or "That's the wrong answer"! He would be crouched on edge of the couch... really getting into it! Big Walter was such an amazing harmonica player... and character as well. Rest In Peace!

He and Little walter were great but i like big Walter's use of slow blues and tone, so soulful. Saw him in the 60's in ann arbor then again there in the 70's a few times at the blind pig. Unless you saw guys like him in a small venue like that you've never died and gone to heaven, shakey was it

The poor man’s sax. Spent months on the 5:08 Appalachian Trail with my harmonica. Took that to a local jam at Marinos Lunch. Playing sideman with everyone. Super flex. Great listening to the pros at R&B. Wailing!

The real stuff right here. Don’t need to go anywhere else. You found the blues right here.
Sonny Boy is singing but ...really not playing guitar. If you think that's him because he dosen't play harp then you are wrong . If Sonny boy could play guitar like that the world would have known. Just sayin'

Every bit as good as Little Walter, Sonny Boy, or whoever, and yet so few have ever heard of Big Walter "Shaky" Horton, myself included. He's the genuine article. Thank God some put up his music on YT
@jeffreycantor5569 Жыл бұрын
big Walter does deserve more recognition but no he is not every bit as good as sonny boy#2 or little walter this is because he was an alcobolic he tended to be amazing first set& sometimes flat out awful once he got drunk. he was not the influence on harp players that little Walter &Rice miller were.no blues harp player can get thru a set without playing some sonny boy lines or little Walter style harp

Anyone that knows LW, SBII, music knows who BWH is. It wasn’t a competition, they all have their own style and shouldn’t be compared.
