Yup, bought one 3 years ago & have gotten 2 more since. Damn handy. There's an Icon mini ratchet box set w/extension & 32bits from Harbor freight that pairs really well with this. The icon driver is nice and all, with a swivel, but much thicker w/a round handle that makes it a bit unwieldy in tight spaces. So I often use the Klein driver instead.

Other than that I follow the video correct

Thanks! I like how you touched on different thickness sheaves. The adjustable ones are so common nowadays so it makes it more difficult to align and they rarely ever get swapped out. I swear bearings and belts are one of the least understood things in HVAC next to airflow lol.

Great job 👏🏻 I had to do something similar to this recently.. only been doing this 5 years and I don’t have a whole lot of experience doings pumps like this. It was a b**tch! You made it look easy. Ran into similar issues like the pipe weighing down on the bearing assembly causing it to kind of cock eye upward… aligning the coupling took some time to. Hopefully my next one will go smoother haha good job again man.

I replaced a set of bearings on an Addison OAU. I was unable to order parts direct from manufacturer (backordered), so I took some measurements and found what looked to be a suitable replacement online. When they arrived, I noticed they said 'Dodge' on them. I thought that was a little odd but I was confident in my measurements so proceeded. That pulley did NOT want to come off. It took a copious amount of sanding, lubricating, and strategic application of force before it made that 'ting' sound and slid off. When I finally got the old bearings off, I saw they, too, had Dodge stamped in them. I've seen those same Dodge bearings on other equipment since (the new Trane Odyssey Symbio systems, for one). I've been doing more commercial and light industrial lately, no help, no training, just learn as I go. Not so bad, if there's a puzzle I just let the office know this might take awhile. Most of the time, I can figure it out. On a few occasions I just sit in my van for an hour or so reading the manual. Sometimes, nothing makes any sense and then the light bulb comes on and all the puzzle pieces fit. I learn more on those jobs than the ones that go smoothly.

You just summed up the recipe for success! Great job on matching those bearings!

The "gen I" torque titans had ALOT of issues with rolling off the sheaves/pulleys even when put on the 'correct' way and to spec. Gen II came out pretty quick to avoid that I believe.

Nice! In all seriousness (35+ years in the trade), what’s the 'right way'? If the way we always do it is 'wrong' there should be nothing but call backs on belt failure. I’ve never replace a properly aligned/tensioned belt twice, that I put on 'wrong'.

Watch your fingers lifer, yikes. I enjoy watching your videos. personally, I would not have adjusted the pulley. They’re so worn that the belts have created its happy place, and will likely create more issues than it’s worth, I’d just quote new pulleys and align it when you install them. Good work though.

Somehow I missed this video . I absolutely suck at making flares , probably cause I haven't had to make any for years now but still I need to work on getting good at it . Again the flaring tools we get here most of 'em aren't anywhere near the one you've got , it's just the basic regular ones that either don't grip the pipe well enough and slip , or grip too hard and you end up damaging the pipe ...

So I got a new reversing valve from trane supply for a 3 ton system, it was normally in cooling position is this normal ? I could see the light through holes from line going to condenser to discharge which means it was in cool mode, do you have to manually elenergize or work this valve to put it in normal position ?
@HVACLife28 күн бұрын
Trane RVs along with most other brands are in cooling mode if 24V is supplied to the solenoid. Ameristar (a Trane brand), Rheem/Rhudd, and another one that escaped me right now are in heat mode if there is 24V supplied to the coil. The reason most other valves aren't this way is because it's common for HVAC systems to fail and default to heat mode rather than cooling mode (ie broken orange wire make the system still capable of heat). Hope that helps!

When I first started helping with repairs & overhauls I was taught to throw a pressure relief on our 600 lb tanks once I switched to pulling vapor. Never thought much more about letting it vent inside the mechanical room. Sure I knew inhaling refrigerant is bad, but it wasn’t until a few years down the road I started working under a new guy I was told about how bad 123 was to breathe. He showed me all the stuff trane wrote up about it, how you’re supposed to wear masks and stuff, etc. He even told me that the local carrier shop was paying guys hazard pay to work around it….honestly frustrated me how none of the people I used to work with even mentioned it to me, let alone had me staging every machine by myself until it was time for them to come in and have me help.
