The sale gods are leading Chris to "make Krakoa great again" 😅

@TuggernautCollectables as long as it takes place in this self-contained universe, sure lol but nit main Canon lol
@SamGuthrie197712 сағат бұрын
Yeah but my problem with the idea of Krakoa is that it intrinsically and canonically makes no sense to begin with. Humans were never the biggest threat to mutants - other mutants were. That's the point of the X-Men that Stan injected into the book with issue #1 back in 1963, when he established that Magneto and the Brotherhood's actions were a threat to the safety of both humans and mutants alike. Their behavior also inflamed human prejudice towards mutants which Xavier was trying to reduce. I knew Hickman inherently didn't understand the X-Men in HoX/PoX #1, when he erroneously cited the Genosha slaughter and M-Day as two reasons mutants needed segregate away from humans. Genosha was done by Cassandra Nova, a Shi-ar Mummudrai; and M-Day was done by Scarlett Witch, another mutant. Neither were human. What about the other mutant genocides in canon that Hickman did not mention? The Morlock Massacre? Orchestrated by Mister Sinister and carried out by Gambit, Sabretooth, and the Marauders -- a mutate eugenicist and a bunch of mutant mercenaries. Not humans. Fall of the Mutants? That was Apocalypse, another mass murdering mutant eugenicist. The Dark Phoenix Saga? That was orchestrated by Shaw and the Inner Circle of the Hellfire club. Rich, powerful, elite mutant billionaires. Age of Apocalypse? Legion's fault. Another mutant. Why would the X-Men choose to live on an island with other mutant villains who are responsible for more mutant death and destruction than any human villain? It doesn't make sense. Having your own nation for your own people, doesn't mean squat if you've invited the biggest threats to live alongside you. But I get it. It's 2024 and Marvel has a bunch of low quality writers who have never actually read X-Men history before, so they awkwardly shoehorn a dumb social justice "mutants vs humans" theme onto the book when that's never what it was truly about. "My mistake was not working towards peace between mutants first." There's no mistake. That's what Xavier's been doing since issue #1 -- trying to stop the bad mutants from doing bad things. He was doing it right from the beginning. There is no making peace with some of these mutant villains. The only way this Krakoa thing works is if we ignore all X-Men canon and they start writing our former mutant heroes completely out-of-character so they seem okay rubbing elbows with villains.
@ChrisMacPresents3 сағат бұрын
@SamGuthrie1977 that's what I liked about this book. All the shoe horned stuff is not present. Plus, characters actually act like they're supposed to. The only 2 big changes are that they live on an island and can be resurrected. I can see this as an elseworld book, but as Canon, no thank you

The whole ordeal of bringing Jean back did make Scott look bad. But if I remember right, he left to go see if Jean truly was alive, then tried to return home to Alaska but Maddie had already fled with Baby Nathan in a fit of rage. Once they had disappeared, Scott had no home to return to, so he stayed with X-Factor and Jean. Granted, it still doesn't make him look like a very good husband and father but I was thinking that he at least did try to return to home but no one was there. Just going from memory, it's been a while since I read it.

Brilliant review 👏, This was so well done. So much story packed into so few pages. Brw..I disagree with you about Sparkplug. This was obviously written to make our young minds see two different points of view (something mostly absent in todays society). That is a good thing and it stuck with me. I also think this was a groundbreaking series because this was the first time I had seen a single father raising his child in a comic. We were never told what happened to Buster's mother but I always assumed see had passed away. Anyway..I love your reviews. They take me back. I am old enough to remember when Tarzan, Doc Savage, Shogun Warriors, Micronauts, Godzilla and Transformers all took place in the Marvel Universe. Sigh.........

It was the 4-issue mini-series that became an 80-issue mini-series. Back then, comics weren't afraid to use third-person narration and thought balloons to help tell the story. It pulled the reader into the story and gave it deeper dimensions. I suspect most modern comics are trying to emulate TV and film, and they won't use those storytelling techniques anymore. Which is stupid. Comics should be comics. They should embrace their strengths as a medium. I love the G1 Transformers toys, and I still have my collection on display. That said, I never figured out why Hasbro decided that the Ratchet/Ironhide design was worthy of a repaint, thus becoming two characters/toys. It's obviously the worst of the G1 toyline. In robot mode it doesn't even have a head. The designs for Wheeljack, Skids, Mirage, Tracks, Hound, and Jazz were all really good, but Hasbro never recolored any of them and made them into more characters. But for some reason, that terrible Ratchet design got the double treatment. Go figure.

@SamGuthrie1977 that's how I feel about the Marvel Legends Captain America/Bucky molds. Overly used with the shield hole in the back, and it's such a stiff mold. It needs to be retired. As for Comics, you are right on the money. I've noticed that a lot of modern books read like a screenplay. It really diminishes traditional art. Heartbreaking.

I remember really liking run, but it's been a long time since I read it. Namor becomes the head of his own corporation, and Namorita features heavily in the latter half. Toward the end, Byrne had started working on Next Men so Jae Lee took over doing pencils. John Byrne was one of those guys who was simply born to create comics. It always took me aback at how easily he renders scenes and effortlessly conveys visual information.

Over time, I think all the truly great runs will probably see an increase in price to some degree. As fans gradually discover which comics are actually good and worth reading, they'll want to own them. There are a lot of old school runs and that I think are still undervalued right now. Specifically, I think there are a lot of great 80's and 90's comics that many fans haven't discovered yet. That said, there are too many idiot speculators (many of whom don't even read comics) driving up the cost of worthless modern books right now, and slabbing a bunch of issues that have no reason to be slabbed. It's kind of like the mid 90's on repeat again, except instead of die-cut and chromium covers, this time it's a bunch of variant covers. And don't forget, everything is a "key issue" nowadays. lol Chris, I know you're not a fan of Silver Age DC, but if you've never read it, Jim Shooter's run on Legion of Super-Heroes in the 1960's is really good. It's got some of those Silver Age trappings, but the storytelling is more sophisticated and serious. It feels more like a 70's or 80's comic.

@ChrisMacPresents12 күн бұрын
I agree, though since this is supposed to take place during a "Krakoan Era" and all the mutants left for Mars, and the Brood are usually only featured in X-Men titles, having the Xenomorphs here makess sense. Luckily, I bought my copy of this back in the late 2000's, before the price went stupid. X-Men Forever was the ongoing series that Claremont did. It picks up after X-Men #3, the last issue he wrote in 1991 before Bob Harras pushed him out. I'm normally a big Claremont fan, but I wasn't crazy about X-Men Forever. It's not his best work. There was also an unrelated X-Men Forever mini-series in the early 2000's, by Fabian Niceiza. It's been a long time since I read it but if I remember right, it involved Ship from X-Factor.
@ChrisMacPresents13 күн бұрын
Lucky duck! I wish I could have grabbed it before the price sky rocketed. I am super reluctant about X-Men Forever. I'm more interested in diving into X-Treme X-Men. I can'y say I've ever heard of Ship?
@SamGuthrie197712 күн бұрын
@@ChrisMacPresents Yeah dude, you remember Ship. After Fall of the Mutants in the late 80's, back when the roster was still the original X-Men team, they ended up with Apocalypse's space ship. It was made by the Celestials, and it was sentient. They lived in it, in Manhattan, like it was a big skyscraper. It was kinda like a member of the team there for awhile.
