@ALxdCr4ftPlays9 ай бұрын
2 bedroom places in Wellington average NZ$750/week, which is the highest and most expensive average in the entire country!! While Auckland & Christchurch enjoy a much lower average of NZ$500/week for a 2 bedroom with better value for money. The average hourly pay rate per adult is $30/hour (median) so yes lower than the mean calculation the government uses. Only a fraction of the NZ population are doctors or get six figure salaries.

Is it alright to apply for relocation for both of you if you are the only teacher whilst your partner is not?? And, can we submit all the receipts of our expences? You reply will be highly appreciated. Thank yku very nuch.

Hello, my partner is a registered teacher as well, so that is why we both applied for the grant. I am not sure if someone who is not a registered teacher (but moved over with a partner who is) would be able to apply or not. Ans yes, you will have to submit receipts for all of the expenses that you claim under the $5000 in order to receive the grant money. I hope that helps! Happy to provide more information from my experience if needed :)

Can I submit my rent receipts for four weeks to claim RG? Thank you so much

Hey Sarah, considering the housing prices Vs housing quality , expenses and in general the quality of living , which place would you recommend to finally settle down - NZ or Canada ?
@sarahspage75612 жыл бұрын
Hello, that is such a tricky question without a simple answer. But, to try to simplify it I would choose Canada for quality of living (physical structures like houses) and I think that quality of life depends on what you value and where in Canada/NZ you would want to settle. My life in New Zealand was slower paced and simpler. There was far less of a consumer culture and way more access to nature, which I loved. I am from Southern Ontario so in comparison to here, the quality of life was better in Wellington. However, there are lots of small towns in New Zealand that are fun to visit but I would never want to live in. Compared to those, Ontario is definitely better. I am also in the process of moving to BC where there is way more access to nature (and hopefully less of a consumer culture), so I don't know how BC and Wellington will compare. I will say that there are very few cities in New Zealand that I would ever live full-time in. Wellington was a dream, but in terms of ever wanting to change it up, the number of other places in New Zealand that I would be interested in (at least while in my twenties) is limited. It is also hard to justify spending money to purchase a house in New Zealand when the quality of the home is so incredibly poor. But the landscape, culture, and people in New Zealand are all so beautiful. I honestly don't think I can answer your question about the quality of life (as evidenced by my extremely long winded answer), but I do hope that my response has provided some insight.

Hey Sarah, thank you so much for taking out time to reply. Totally understand where you’re coming from. There are pros and cons to living in both places that have very different climatic conditions but apart from the environmental factors, the housing conditions & pricing definitely plays a huge role in decision making. So it’s quite good to know the viewpoint of someone who’s lived in both the places. Appreciate the detailed info !

Hi! Informative video. I have a Masters in computer applications and gradution in computer science. But I dont have a teachers certificate. I have 6 years experience in Middle east as a computer teacher. As computers are co-curricular subjects, you can teach here without a teachers certificate. If I want to teach in New Zealand, by doing a Graduate Diploma in teaching focusing on secondary or middle school teaching, which sector can I teach there? Is there a subject called Computer Science? I hope you can assist me with this. Thank you!
@sarahspage75612 жыл бұрын
Hi there, this would be something that you would have to confirm with the Teaching Council, but here are my thoughts/experience. There were teachers at my school who taught specialist subjects (ie. carving) without a teaching degree. I believe that their official title was "tutor" and I believe that they got paid less. Due to the extreme shortage of teachers in New Zealand, I believe you would be able to get hired without a teaching degree, but you will get paid less for your work. If you want to do your Grad Dip in teaching, then you should be fully qualified to teach when you finish. Are you planning to do your Grad Dip in NZ? There is definitely a subject area that is computer science based. Different schools would likely call their courses by slightly different names. I imagine your experience would be quite valuable, especially if you have experience with coding, robotics, etc. I hope that answer helps! Feel free to ask more questions as they come up :).

Hi! Thanks for this video. It really helps. You mentioned that you're a high school teacher, how is the teaching environment in NZ?
@sarahspage75612 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, I found it really great! My co-workers/staff team were a very supportive group. The atmosphere is much more relaxed than what I've experienced in Ontario (generally speaking). The curriculum is much less prescribed, so you have more freedom and flexibility. This can be good or overwhelming when you start. For the most part the kids were awesome! Like any school, there were some behavioural issues. There do seem to be a lot fewer consequences for behaviour in NZ which in some cases I felt allowed it to continue or worsen, rather than be dealt with. There are a lot of opportunities (at least where I was) to take on additional responsibilities (roles) and get management units which add to your pay. This boosted my salary quite a lot and diversified my day because I wasn't always teaching. I really enjoyed this and felt that it gave me a better balance. Having made a lot of friends who are also teachers in NZ, I think your experience really depends on the area where you teach, and your school. I hope that info helps :)

Yes, I did work with Ed Personnel to help connect me to jobs. You don’t have to in order to find a job, but I think it makes it easier.
