The reason the sun is stronger is because you are nearer the equator, Auckland is nearly on the same latitude as Los Angeles, the Ozone layer thing doesn't help but it's mostly the fact that Canada is like 50 to 65 degrees NZ is 35 to 45 degrees from the Equator it makes a big difference.

The ozone hole is over Antartica, not NZ. The sun is stronger because of the humidity and lack of pollution leading to clearer sunnier skies.

As an expat kiwi living in Brisbane, the price of gas sounds expensive but the car registration is so cheap. I'm paying $700 odd dollars a year for registration and that's for a small car! never mind my motorbike rego.

Very fair comments, pretty sure the Auckland Hop Card is way more convenient that Wellingtons Snapper. Very fond of Canada myself and yes it does also have many elements that feel like home, maybe its the commonwealth thing. Hope you enjoy your stay here my Canadian friends tell me things are pretty dire there at present , stay safe. If you are still in NZ there are a couple of videos on my channel that might inspire your local travel. Cheers Chris

I've lived in perth Australia for over 8 years we've had 40 degree Celsius weeks but yet I've never been burnt. But now I've moved back to NZ and had my first summer here and all I can say is that my usual olive complexion resembles something between a dark brown lobster lol. I'm with your comment though I the not as hot but the sun is more intense here in New Zealand.

You can actually top up the Snapper card online, but because of how the card works, you need to first purchase a special USB stick that plugs into your computer and communicates with the card. Also, the Government is planning to roll out a nationwide public transport payment system (hopefully with online payment) called ProjectNEXT by 2026, which will do away with all regional cards in favour of a single card usable on most or all public transport across the country.
@sarahspage75613 жыл бұрын

My brother lives in Auckland and we were talking about how stupid it is that there's no country wide transport system. Like do away with Snappers, Hops etc and have one system that everyone uses for everything. At least with HOP you can use it on all form of transport. The Snapper here in Wellington is just for buses, which is annoying.

@@sassypants7536 Could not agree more! My partner and I have been travelling for the past few weeks and were just commenting on that when we saw advertisements for the "Bee card" North of Wellington! hey sarah! i'm from toronto too! the second the borders open up i'm going to apply for my working holiday visa. i'm just wondering --- the nz website says you can't have a "permanent" job... i would need to work the entire year i'm there so the wording is make me nervous! when i lived in australia i could only work for an employer for 6 months but it still worked out fine. any advice is appreciated!

Hey Daniel! By permanent job, they mean permanent contract. For my job, I was offered a permanent contract after my interview but had to ask for a one-year contract instead (or two if you're staying for two years). So, I have a secure, full-time job, but my contract technically ends this January 2021. My employer then offered me another one year contract for this coming year which officially ends before my visa expires. Does that help? If not, I'm happy to try to clarify further :). Visas are confusing and the website Immigration Website is not overly user friendly at times.
@sarahspage75613 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, permanent contract means full-time employee, no end date. You are permanently hired. As long as you have a short-term contract with an end date that is prior to your visa expiring, you will be fine. In my experience, no one has ever checked anyways, but always good to do everything by the book. We are very fortunate as Canadians seem to have the best working holiday visa terms available in New Zealand. It is the longest and has almost no restrictions in terms of work. I imagine the process will be very competitive post COVID- good luck with everything :).
@MAURGASM3 жыл бұрын
@@sarahspage7561 that helps so much! so i just need to be offered a job and make sure there's an end date!!!!! helps so much.
@sarahspage75613 жыл бұрын
@@MAURGASM No problem! You don't need a job before you get here. The visa just gives you the option to work if you want to. But, if you do get a job, just make sure that the contract doesn't say the word "permanent" in it. If it's a "career" type job, then ask for a fixed term contract with an end date and you should be golden! :)

I love them both. Canada is home for me, so I'm a little biased, but it depends what you want to prioritize. New Zealand is definitely noticeably a LOT smaller, with fewer cities and many much smaller towns. But, it has a lot more to offer in terms of outdoor adventure than certain parts of Canada. There are pro's to both!
