If I was going to make a Necklace in 16g ASW, the ID of the rings would be 4 or 4.75 mm.? Thank you.

I apologise for commenting after more than 9 years, just trying to understand something. What's the difference between JPL3 4-1 (which this seems to be) and regular spiral 4-1? Is it just the tighter AR?

When you're doing that are you grabbing two rings at a time
@raineyamy3 жыл бұрын
No, for Jens Pind, it's always 1 ring at a time.
@ConcettaSpiteri3 жыл бұрын
I've always been taught that you should have your dominant hand come toward you makes it easier to attach another ring to it. And as far as grip you have to be careful that your tools don't Mar the jump rings they could catch on your clothes.
@raineyamy3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it matters which way you open the ring, the most comfortable for the user and the ability to get it closed flush is most important. Also, I find that a tight grip where the ring doesn't slid around in the plier jaws is less marring than too loose a grip. Finding the sweet spot takes practice.

This is my first time watching one of your tutorials. I enjoyed it. You go slow enough to follow along and explain every step clearly. I was just wondering if for future tutorials, you could make the chain a little longer. Such as this tutorial had 3 big ring to start. I would have liked if you had continued to 5. That would just allow fir a little more guided practice.

Hello. I have watched your video many times, I thought that if you use ring #1 in gold, ring #2 in copper and ring # 3 in green that ring #4 should be gold, ring #5 COPPER and ring #6 green, but you did not attach the rings in the same color sequence. I am totally confused. Can you please explain me. Your bracelet came out really pretty, but I have a lot of trouble making mine. Please answer me. Thank so much.

HI there!! I am struggling to get my 20 gauge 4mm jump rings to close tightly- the chain that I use just slips right through the jump ring with a light tug! Any tips/suggestions? :(
@bethskidmore43105 жыл бұрын
You need to make either the gauge bigger for that size or use the 20 gauge with a smaller mm size. 20 gauge is a very thin wire size generally with 20 gauge I make 3mm sized jump rings. The best thing to note is the bigger size your jump rings are the thicker your gauge wire needs to be.

Thank you, but how do you close the rings that are open with a gap - say for when you're making earrings and you have to bend it down to close it? Do you squish them together or put pliers inside and pull it closed? I can easily close jump rings, just not sure exactly how to close the ring when attaching to an earring.

This is not helpful - every time you pick up a ring you are telling the size of the wire not the size of the jump ring - this is essential to chain maille. Something else that be of help to you is the rest of the world is measuring everything in - mm, cm, and metres!!!!!! So more confusion - I liked your work - but I think you might be putting people off this wonderful craft because of the arrogance that everything revolves around AMERICA - it does not. Please get in tune with the rest of us before it's too late. Much love to you and yours from England.
@brissygirl49976 жыл бұрын
Izzy True I follow a couple of other chainmaillers and one uses both metric and imperial measurements, while the other uses imperial. I don't think it it arrogance to use the measurements you're used to. When I hear people using millimetres and centimetres with regard to wire gauges I have no idea what gauge they are talking about, but if they say they're using 20 gauge wire I know what thickness of wire I need.
@juliecorrall68276 жыл бұрын
Brissy Girl lovely video ,but I must agree mm and cm, inches are the preferred measurements for the uk and lots of other countries and would be nice to include this in the video or in additional information. I know you also do kits but not every body can afford the prices and extra for p&p. I would prefer buying myself from my local shopping center and great quality and price less than half of your prices. Lovely video and many thanks for the free lesson in chain mail kind regards I’m subscribed for more.
@raineyamy3 жыл бұрын
I'm (very) late in replying, but in my video description I give all the sizes needed, and they are in mm, as well as noting that wire used is in the American Wire Gauge system. I don't work in imperial / inches unless it's how long a chain is (7" bracelet, etc.) so I'm not sure where that is coming from. I state the size of the gauge of the ring, because there are basically only 3 ring sizes that I use for japanese 12-in-2: 20g 2.75mm ID (doubled) 18g 4.0mm ID (doubled) and then the large 14g rings, which the inner diameter varies depending on the piece. (single) So, when I say 'open one of your 20g rings' -- there is only 1 ring size that refers too. When something is firm in my own head and I speak of it casually, I forget that it is NOT a set thing in other's heads and I apologies for the confusion.
