It makes no sense that a manufacture of such pricey gadgets won't use quiet fans. I'm almost certain that they know they exist. I have a laser projector with four fans: two 95MM fans, one 105MM fan and another that's directly under the laser which looks to be a 60MM fan. Although I am not certain yet. I tried building a hush box but that didn't help. It simply trapped the heat. The noise was still there. I will mod mine as soon as I get those fans in on order. By the way, you can use a 4pin to 2pin adapter for the fans which keeps you from having to cut and solder.

Did you mod it? I wa thinking the ame thing but you need to get same spec fans or you can kill your projector. If you do get the same spec I wonder if theyll really be quieter

Very interesting, but, a lot of trouble for most people. Put the projector on the ceiling a few feet or MORE behind you the further away the less noticeable the noise. The real problem with these projectors in the long run is not so much the noise-which will always be there, but DUST. They are not sealed so over time dust will invade the unit. The filter is OK but could BE A LOT BETTER. Perhaps a dual filter-now that would be an easier and important mod. Dust? It's EVERYWHERE. Why do you think they have CLEAN rooms in CPU manufacturing facilities? I wonder if running an ionizer in the projector room would help this?

No LED light on the Power button, no items power on when plugged in and button is pressed. Took it apart, Cleaned it (wasn't that bad) and reviewed the PSU. from what I could tell, it might not be giving power to the rest of the unit. Does anyone know where I could get a new board? Also, does anyone know if there's any parts of it that would force it to not start if X isn't powered on, similar to the LEDs of a TV?

Is it possible to remove the blower fan and replace it with a regular fan? I suppose in order to do this you would need to cut a hole in the side of the projector so the airflow is in the same direction. I’m not sure if a regular fan would produce enough airflow to keep everything cool. If it did, then that may be a great way to remove a significant amount of noice.
@L0L0K3
@L0L0K3 3 жыл бұрын
It is possible. But a regular fan cannot provide that much airflow to go through all the components and provide enough cooling. Especially for the display. You can give it a try but more likely you gonna end up a burnt display. You can try anouther blower fan but this size is so odd is very hard to find any other more silent replacement.

Hi again, I'm just taking the time to do this right now :) I have a small issue tho, maybe you know this by the top of your head, Google wasn't really helpful. I'm looking really closely and saw that from the four cables in the new fan you have a Red, Yellow, Blue and GREEN cable, mine has Red, Yellow, Blue and BLACK Looks like you are completely cutting Blue and Green and connecting Yellow and Black ? Naturally, I'd just go for the RED and Black wire of my fan and wire them up with the red and black from the pin of the old fan. But you are going for the YELLOW (to red) and black Cable - Should I also go for my yellow instead of the Red? I'm trying to look this up with color coding on wires but it's just more confusing. Maybe you have a quick tip on this, otherwise I'll keep on googling :D Cheers

Hey, I'm planning to do the same mod with the same projector. I saw there is a second fan you didn't change in this video, any idea if it's smart to change that one too or any specs on the second fan? Maybe it's also a source of annoying noise? ;) Also, why did you add the DC-DC 8.5 V, what does it do?
@L0L0K3
@L0L0K3 3 жыл бұрын
The second fan is a blower fan: www.sz-songlian.com/index.php/wareshow/sldzgs/1/en/375312,53143/53143.html it's hard to find a more silent but same spec Fan, the DC-DC 8,5V it's just make the second fan more silent but still keeps the projector cool enough. but that's can be different, so adjust the voltage for your own need.
@ugn
@ugn 3 жыл бұрын
@@L0L0K3 Ah yes, I also just realized you added that second opening next to the second fan for better airflow. Hello, thanks to the video it is very informative. As other people on the comments, I am planning to do same thing on my different projector which is Wimius K1. I am just going to change outflow fan with Noctua fan. I have two question actually. I am going to use 3pin to 2pin adapter instead cutting 3pin cables, do you think it is okay? Secondly, what do you think about put some grease on inflow fan bearing. Would it reduce some noise? Thanks!
@L0L0K3
@L0L0K3 3 жыл бұрын
The 3 pin to 2 pin adapter is good, just make sure its haveing the correct pinout. I don't think some grease would reduce the fan noise. The noise is mainly coming from how the air channels are made in the projector frame and of course from the blower fan.

Check if the LED are not being overdrived too. A lot of these chinese projectors uses 120W unjusted drivers to power 100, 80 or sometimes even 50W LEDs. Sometimes you need to change the precision trimpot to be able to set the right current

Thanks for the Video, Currently i have a Excelvan CL720 Projector, and i did nearly the same modifications like you. Outtakefan Noctua NF9 + DC-DC Converter with Potentiometer to control the fan-speed from outside. For my Projector there were also a video to change the blower fan to an axial fan, with modification of the airflow (cone funnel), but this damagen my frenel lens or lcd panel (small black spot on one corner). I was also looking for an replacement for the axial fan, but without results. But during my optimization i recognized that the most noise came from the airflow, and not from the fan itself. My setting is also at 8.5V in the winter sometimes lower. Now it is functional and stable since 1 year, but the resolution 720p is not optimal to watch pictures from our Smartphones. Thats why i think about to change my projector to an Vankyo V630, because its a cheap Fullhd projector with the possibility to reduce the noise. Does anybody have problems after the modification?

Incredible my friend, I have the same projector model (branded AUN M18, but it's same stuff) and I replaced the original fan with the exact same model of noctua fan you used! I did this hack during the days of lockdown here in Italy, about 10 months ago and the projector still works great! Just I didn't touched the inlet blower because I wanted to avoid the possibility of overheating the lamp, limiting the blower speed as you did (if I understood well). Would like to find a quieter inlet blower as replacement, but it seems to not exist with the technical features of the original one. Anyway just installing the noctua is a great improvement in my opinion. It's really funny to see that in another part of the world a random guy like me did pretty much the same hack I did.
