The EOS R was my first full-frame digital camera, though I'd been using EOS APS-C Canons all the way back to the 10D (and kept a 90D when I got my R). I recently sold my R and got the R6 MKII. I LOVE the R6. The R was/is a great camera, but the R6 is overall better, for all the reasons shown in this video. It's also ergonomically much better. One of the little (or at maybe little for some people but a big deal for me ) is the R6's joystick button in the place of the R's (almost useless) slider button. The ease of use improvement in having a joystick is significan, and really should be on every camera. Fortunately both my 90D and Fuji X100V also have one.

I also miss the top LCD from the EOS R. Maybe I will get used to this. I just can't understand why it is left out, was totally unexpected for a camera in this price range. I don't plan to buy any RF lenses, so maybe I should have stayed with the EOS R. Still not clear if IBIS works at all with EF lenses, like the Canon 40/2.8 or the Sigma 85/1.4. After 2 days, I'm not so happy with the R6 mk2. Next I will try with it is my Godox studio flashes.

I found the R6 (mark 1) to be a hot mess. Too many buttons, an archaic menu that needs to be rethought from the ground up, and it cooked itself when filming for 17 minutes. Dead. Never used the joystick. Loved the touch screen. I dont care for the camera knowing if its a cat, bird, dog or car. Too much pissing around selecting the mode and the shot is gone. too much to think about. I want eyes and spot focus. That’s all. The rest is useless brand posturing. Seeing that I sold the R6, the R looks very attractive indeed. At least it wont die if I flip it to video.
@juljanskurani2 ай бұрын
Honestly since I got the R6 II, I never used the R over it. It‘s way slower imo. I especially like the option to have a point AF and subject recognition at the same time, that way you can tell the camera where to focus, but if that subject moves around in the frame, it still follows it without you moving the AF point, if you keep the shutterbutton half way pressed. Might sound complicated for your workflow, but I love it! And you always have the option to turn subject detection off which makes it work as a clasic point af. The R6 II has never overheated on me, though I’m aware it does overheat in 4k 60fps after ~40min. I even sold the eos R recently and got the R7 as my B camera instead, because the R just wasn‘t cutting it for Video, which is what I needed a B camera for.

@@juljanskurani Good to hear, its possible the mkII is a substantially better beast than the 6. When mine died I opted to try a Blackmagic 6K as a repair stand in. Those two events changed my mind forever on the R6. Interestingly shooting with the BM has made me better at being able to film with much older gear such as the 5Dii. Always learning.

Do you not think it’s a bit unethical to photograph strangers without their consent? I think it’s a bit different at public events vs just people walking home from work. I’m curious about your justification. I was not really thinking about this until I moved to Germany many years ago. Now I’m much more conscious about it.

They changed the middle divider into a removeable one because people complained. There's always a complaint 😅 Besides, with the old one, if you don't need it you can't remove it and it's a little bulky so it takes space. With the strap pocket, that's a specific problem you had. It wasn't very useful for me. Harder to open, access, and put bigger stuff too. Now I can use it more, maybe with filters or lens covers. Besides, they have a new camera strap clip for arcaswiss that might replace the PD one. It might be easier to use. And the strap pockets possibly made the backpack more comfortable. I'm not sure when the last time I used those pockets. For me, only the removed RFID pocket was a downgrade. I think there's pros and cons to the changes. But I kinda like the design of the older shoulder bag. Cause usually I have other stuff I can put on top compartment, maybe a second camera. It was great when you just want to bring that bag, you can fit an a7c with 35mm there, plus a gropro AND your phone. That was crazy. But it's not a big deal. Sad to see it go but I can adapt and find other ways. But I appreciate this video. All good information, thanks!

@garynguyen66214 ай бұрын
@@juljanskurani so its pretty much stuck closed at the moment, but the prior "fix" for me was that at the very top part of the track I used to pliers and cut the track. It was the only way I was able to put the zipper back on track , because it dangled loose from one side. It had came off due to the bottom right of the pocket doing the same thing as the video. So it was working, but I forgot to tie a little know at the very top where I had cut, so I zipped it a tad beyond that point. And well as of now its kinda stuck closed lol Hope that all made sense

Some folks yapping about how people buy it for the hype and film simulations. Lets not forget that it has a built in flash, hybrid EVF/OVF, leaf shutter that allows for insane shutter speeds for flash in the sun. Did i mention that there's a lense built into it as well. No other fuji camera has all these elements in the same camera, yes the xpro has the ovf / evf hybrid as well but its big, has no leaf shutter or flash. The xt50 has the flash but none of the other features and no weather proofing Update, also has the built-in nd filters

Yes the X100v is a great camera when compared to other brands (in its original price range) but no way now that it's become an expensive camera on the resale market.. For the amount of money the X100V costs on the resale market at the moment you're getting absolutely scammed if you buy one in 2024. It's essentially a point and shoot camera it has no valid right to cost much more than $1- $1400. For that price range it used to be one of the best point and shoot cameras on the market but if you paid much more than that you got scammed. For the current resale price of the X100V you can literally get a brand new XT-5 which is literally one of Fujifilms flagship professional cameras. People like the x100v for the same reasons as the GR2 they're great point and shoot cameras, they fit in your pocket and used to outperform for their cost. From a professional users perspective they're basically useless, but if you like photography they're so much more fun to use than an iPhone camera (but shouldn't be considered as much more than that)

Great work, it's difficult to find great side by side comparisons like this. This is very interesting because I assumed that shooting 10-bit clog3 on the r6ii would make recovering highlights / shadows easier than the 8-bit clog "1" on the eos r. but I can't see a difference at all (edit: can't see as significant difference as I would have expected). I also have a question for you! I have an eos r and find that the rolling shutter on 4k is tolerable with no fast movements BUT if shooting handheld the electronic stabilization does not mitigate the kind of "ripples" from micro jitters that you get because of rolling shutter. Using my brain, I have concluded that IBIS would actually solve the micro jitter issue. I think the rolling shutter is actually that same on the r6 and eos r in 4k... around 30ms on both. I was wondering if you could confirm the r6 ibis sort of solves these micro jitter induced ripples in the footage. Thank you!
@juljanskurani4 ай бұрын
Hi, glad I could help! Yes, the micro jitters used to bother me on the Eos R as well and fortunately since I got the R6 Mk II I haven’t seen those micro jitters caused by the E.I.S. anymore.

Peoplw buy this overhyped overpriced camera for what are essentially inbuilt instagram filters. Literally every fujifilm camera has film simulation
@juljanskurani4 ай бұрын
I disagree with the instagram filters comparison. As of the other fujifilm cameras, I believe you that it’s possible to get similar results with cheaper cameras even though I‘m not very familiar with the system. However I did mention that I liked this camera for the overall laid back vibe and for being so quirky, not for working with it. In today‘s overstimulating world, that might be more important to people than one might think. :)

Use what you enjoy. If you don’t like it don’t have to flame it. Everyone have the right to their own opinion and preference
@cacaulaymulkin77244 ай бұрын
@@wtfbbqz no I'm not criticizing the camera I'm criticizing how people jump on bandwagons. It's because of youtubers and Instagram influencers that this particular camera now costs 2 - 3x it's original cost. People are buying into the x100v because of youtuber hype, not because of independent thought and rational thinking. People want this camera simply because other people want it. As for the camera itself, you can't even change lens on it meaning all these people using this camera are all basically making the same cookie cutter images as each other given its point and shoot nature. You can literally get fujifilm's current flagship the XT-5 or even the XH2 for less than the current selling price of the inferior in literally every way X100V.
@cacaulaymulkin77244 ай бұрын
@@juljanskurani you can literally get a brand new XT-5 for cheaper than what X100Vs are currently selling for. It's that ridiculous. The XT-5 is literally a superior camera in every single way and takes way better pictures by every metric. The X100V only limits your creativity as a photographer with its lack of lenses, no grips, no dials, no real viewfinder, a small battery etc it's a fun hobby point and shoot camera to whip out of your pocket at parties, but way overpriced nowadays due to it's influencer hype. There are better Fujifilm cameras that will do the same if not better than the X100V for a fraction of the price because you aren't paying the hype tax.
