Hey!! I just made my first book sleeve. You're so easy to follow along. Felt like a walk in the park. Also, I was wondering if you had any links about how to do a very simple single crochet beaded border for this exact book sleeve..

Hi Carrie! No you can use any yarn you have for this type of project. I personally prefer cotton for a couple reasons. One it does stretch as much and it's really durable. But not having cotton shouldn't stop you. Acrylic will also work great. Enjoy!

Thank you for the thorough instructions! Have you ever tried to crochet this flat? I'm trying the sc/hdc repeat section on a flat project and it keeps slanting to one side. I'm thinking it has something to do with all the hdc going in one direction without the row from the wrong side compensating for the slating. Is this something you have come across?
@crochetcricket7 ай бұрын
Hi Gaby, I have experienced some slanting on flat pieces when alternating stitch types. It might be something you can block to fix or you can just do it all in sc also. I have a sleave that is just 2 flat sc panels seamed with a flat surface stitch.kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6S6anSOZ8afj7sfeature=shared

As for your straps idea I think it's great, I love crossbody bags. You could maybe try the granny stripe straps from my other bag tutorial instead of doing these handles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGKmnGCQeZmSfdU

Aww it's ok :) don't worry you can try going up a hook size or adding a chain space between your clusters if the squares are turning up like a bowl. Try that at see if it helps.

@crochetcricket8 ай бұрын
Hi Zy, yes I want to do some color work tutorials. I will let you know when I do this one 😉 I have not had as much time lately for filming but hope to again soon. Some advice to start on your own would be to search a pixel art chart you like or make you on with flosscross.com. Then do some tapestry crochet tutorials to learn the color work technique so you can apply that to your own chart. Hope this helps, thanks!

Although my first attempt went poorly, mostly making the base too long and too wide not realising how much it would expand and a minor error on the increases, I am excited to make another one with some practice, for now I made a lengthwise cover it was so wide , but this is still the first time I have successfully made that increase to make rectangle shape and the tutorial was a good pace and very clear once I got the hang of it and for now I have a slightly wonky book cover for myself haha

I've made my first crochet project with this! Thank you so much. I did have to look for another way to do an invisible join because I couldn't seem to understand your way without increasing (but I understand that's a beginners issue! ) - after I had figured out a way for me to join that worked for me, it was simple to follow and to crochet. I chose a pretty leaf button - it was also my first time going button shopping and that was also quite fun! Now I have a way to protect my book in my bag... Thank you for sharing your craft! :)

Hi loving the video although I’d like to make it bigger and am concerned it won’t work
@crochetcricket9 ай бұрын
Hi Ivy, you can make the bag as big or small as you want but it's the shape you have to keep in mind. If you want it wider horizontally or vertically you may want to stop working in the round for the granny square part when it's big enough but then start working rows by using a granny stripe on the sides you want to increase. That should give you the shape you want then you should still be able to follow the rest of the pattern. I have not tested this, but that is what I would try if I wanted a bigger bag. Hope this helps!

Hey! If I wanted to make a kindle sleeve instead of a book sleeve, should I be making any adjustments for width?
@crochetcricket9 ай бұрын
For a kindle or tablet you probably don't need to do the increasing on round 2 in the corners. Just do round one and then do one stitch in every stitch around starting from round 2. That would give you a more narrow sleeve. You could do HDC stitches like in the video or SC stitches. Both would work. Hope this helps 😊.

I did 232 on both ends is it still going to end up the same or will I have like a bowl?
@crochetcricket10 ай бұрын
This is how you turn the corners while increasing to get the size you need for your base. Once you stop increasing the corners it should start to turn in like a bowl and go straight up. Is that happening for you?

Does the type of yarn we use matter?
@crochetcricket11 ай бұрын
Hi apricotteya, you can use any kind of yarn you want for a book sleeve. I prefer to use cotton yarn but I have seen others use acrylic so whatever you have will work fine :). I had a very thin cotton for this one so I just held 2 strands together so it was more like worsted weight but if you have worsted weight that will work just fine. Just adjust your starting chain based on the size of your book. You could do a small 2x2 inch square to test your yarn and hook before making the project. If you use a smaller hook than what is recommended it comes out a little more stiff and I sometimes like that for this kind of project. Hope this helps!

If I were to do this in half double, would I still need to slip stitch? I’m really confused as to what a slip stitch is and why we slip stitch.
@crochetcricket11 ай бұрын
Hi Veni, a slip stitch is when you insert your hook, pull up a loop and then immediately pull that loop through the loop already on your hook. I like to use slip stitches around the top edge of the sleeve. I think it looks nice and finished but also makes the edge stronger 💪. Slip stitches around the top edge are optional and you can finish your sleeve with whatever border you like best. Thanks!
@crochetcricket11 ай бұрын
I just realized you might be asking about slip stitching when joining rounds. If you want you can work HDC in continuous rounds without joining as well. I have another tutorial where I do that very thing kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2fEZauQhc6Igc0
