This epic, haunting track shares something with Fred Neil's "Merry Go.Round" and Tim Buckley's "Danang". The tonality of their voices against a dissonant chord sequence elicits an emotional response. They all have an almost mythical, mystic quality.

Barrett je pre mna absolutne top. Bohuzial sa prefetoval s LSD a vypalilo mu to mozog. A nezachranila ho uz ani ta hudba.

If syd had got a new band and performed this live looking cool would have been good.

Whenever my mental health has been poor, I’ve found solace in Syd’s music. Thank you Syd.
Is this comment section all an in joke or are you actually serious?

there really isn't anything bad you could say about "roger" syd barrett. he did so much for music in such a short time. don't know why he stopped. he could have found better musicians..... but i reallly don't know. what if don van vliet's band from the 80s backed him up? damn... that's a thought.

FUN FACT...Syd liked big american style cars.. he never bothered to get a license or even drive..he just liked sitting in them or on them .start them .flash the lights etc..,OPEL, a German car maker ..(later became Vauxhaul) set up a car factory in the UK..in the late 50s to early 60s one of their models was a large american style car, named OPEL REKORD P1....a bigger model.OPEL REKORD P2 soon followed...hence..OPEL....OPEL REKORD.....OPEL RECORD....HAVE YOU GOT IT YET ?

"Grasshoppers green herbarian band" is such a great lyric. It just tumbles off the tongue while conjuring some vivid psychedelic imagery. It's like something out of Alice in Wonderland.

I do wonder if Crying Song or Opal was recorded first. I've read on the Atagong site that David and Syd listened to the More LP after its completion.

He was a great song writer but unfortunately it never came out right after he left Floyd even though his writing was great his playing and his timing was never the same

Yes. Floyd held him back.

Honestly I feel that his work in Pink Floyd was missing something that his solo work had, almost like he had some mental (possibly physical health-caused) issue during the Pink Floyd era preventing him from reaching his full potential. Like the Pink Floyd work has more effort put in but feels a bit more strung together, while the melodies and song structures in his solo albums flow in a more natural way and are more catchy even (to me). I've said this before, but when people take influence from Syd Barrett it seems more typically his solo work than his Pink Floyd work.

Anyone got the sheet music for the lead electric? I'm learning each part, the acoustic guitar was pretty easy find chords for and the bass was easy to figure out by ear, but for me it's harder to recognise notes by ear on the guitar.

Effervescing Elephant Syd Barrett An Effervescing Elephant with tiny eyes and great big trunk once whispered to the tiny ear the ear of one in fear, you hear that by next June he'd die, oh yeah! because the tiger would roam. The little one said: "Oh my goodness I must stay at home! and every time I hear a growl I'll know the tiger's on the prowl and I'll be really safe, you know the elephant he told me so." Everyone was nervy, oh yeah! and the message was spread to zebra, mongoose, and the dirty hippopotamus who wallowed in the mud and chewed his spicy hippo-plankton food and tended to ignore the world preferring to survey a herd of stupid water bison, oh yeah! And all the jungle took fright, and ran around for all the day and the night but all in vain, because, you see, the tiger came and said: "Who me?! You know, I wouldn't hurt not one of you. I'd much prefer something to chew and you're all to scant." oh yeah! He ate the Elephant.

This song reminds me of two people... one is an old friend (he practically was an elephant, 2 metres tall and the clumsiest person you'll ever meet), this song describes his persona :D Other was my old surveying teacher, we once had a game of Truth or Dare (both teachers and students), he dared me to cover this song, which I did :D
