Just imagine how much more interesting Floyd would've been with Barrett still on board through the 70s. I have a feeling that Waters wanted to be the main man anyway. Some of the tunes he released after he left (like this) show what a unique talent he was. LSD can be a f****r.

They were never able to reach the heights of songwriting that Syd reached. The Piper is simply unmatched.
@Josephine_Mass9 ай бұрын
@@joannetelling his solo albums were technically Floyd projects in all but name. Nick is the only member who didn't participate, because he couldn't keep up with Syd's erratic timing. Even Syd's own replacement as Floyd's front man joined in (Gilmour), heavily. It was still Syd composing the pop stuff, getting weird on guitar, and heading the whole thing up, being the central talent as always. Madcap even has similarities to Dark Side, and Dark Globe sounds like The Wall. Throw in some extended jamming and his solo albums would be the next natural step for Pink Floyd (which he named) to have taken with him still as the leader. If the studio side of Ummagumma qualifies as a Pink Floyd album, Madcap and Barrett certainly should. They sound better than what Floyd were producing on their own anyway, at the time. They could've been recorded yesterday.

@motorologist7 ай бұрын
Definitely not just you reading the comments for both songs. I think most would agree with that, especially considering Graham Coxon considers Syd Barrett to be one of his major influences. Even though it's a common thing for people to say riffs are stolen.. it kind of seems more likely than not in this case (well, to me). But Blur did something really cool with it, and I'm glad nothing ever came up from that. It's really cool that people take influence from Syd's solo work even though it's clear not much time was put in, though that doesn't affect how great these songs are at all. I wonder if Syd Barrett would himself recognize it, or maybe if he heard it?

Syd was writing great material, with great lead guitar, at the same time Pink Floyd were aimlessly recording Umagumma. Makes one think what PF would have been if Syd hadn’t been booted from the band.
