Making progress it looks like! One thing i notice is the placement of your hand on the throttle. Hovering and fidgeting your hand like that makes your arm more tense. Keep the black knob part of the throttle in your palm and rest the tip of your pointer finger on the front of the friction knob. This gives you more precision in throttle settings since you can reduce throttle by pushing your pointer finger against the friction knob. I also recommend reducing the friction of the throttle by spinning the friction knob left to make throttle adjustments a little easier. This is especially important on gusty days when you experience rapid lifting or sinking due to wind gusting faster or slower. Doing both of those things above will help you feel more in control of the throttle and will likely give you more confidence.

Love the long form, transparent, 360 video. Thank you for posting! I'd love to do the same as i get through my training. 6:35 call should have been a back taxi call. "Chennault Traffic, 15BC is back taxiing runway 35, Chennault." Followed by a "Chennault Traffic, 15BC is departing runway 35 for eastbound departure, Chennault." right before you release the toe brakes and roll out. If i'm in the air and i hear "15BC is taking runway 35 for departure to the east" i'm thinking you're about to enter 35 at the approach end and expect you'll be departing in a few seconds afterwards. Back taxi announcement is much different. Departure after a back taxi happens much further away from the runway entry. Another tip. Set that heading bug to the runway heading on the heading indicator before departure, and also set it when you're making turns. Its an easy visual reference and helps with directional awareness.

Thats great man. i have about 18 hours, so i am by no means in a position to give advice, but i definitely remember that feeling of 'what about this' and the instructor just going 'dont worry about it' haha. I havent flown in about a year due to having to jump through the faa's hoops for medical clearance, but i was on track to doing my solo at 20 hours or so. I definitely struggle most with nose control with the rudder when im coming in to land, i tend to land just left of center line, pointing slightly right. Im happy for you, definitely start that medical now if you havent yet haha
@TravelWithScott6 күн бұрын
@@camrenw9719 dang man….im sorry to hear that! But you def need to get back on it when you can. Yeah that medical i heard can be brutal. Before I even took 1 look at anything , the first thing I did was take my 1st Class Medical , which I passed. So thank God. Tell me More about that nose control and rudder…..why do you think you struggled in it?
@camrenw97195 күн бұрын
@TravelWithScott Honestly, I think it's only because it's a lot harder to tell if the nose is straight in a plane rather than a car or something similar. I think being in the left seat of the c172n I fly makes my perspective skewed a bit, so when I feel straight, I'm pointing right, and when I'm straight, I feel like I'm pointing left. And just aiming for the centerline also just boils down to rudder control from what I know, less aileron, more rudder when on final
@TravelWithScott5 күн бұрын
@@camrenw9719 ahhhh ok, yeah that makes sense. It def is a bit interesting. Today I went up with wind gust and my nose was definitely crabbed almost 35 degrees to the right, but I was heading centerline. Kind of a mind twist.
@camrenw97195 күн бұрын
@TravelWithScott Yeah I had an experience with that, the winds were crazy, switching directions and speed every lap, to the point that atc was using us as a speed check for incoming traffic lol. but I did one landing that day and I butchered it, he offered to let me try again, but coming in on final was just too risky for me so I let him land. we went one more time and he used it as an opportunity to teach me about headwind correction on landing. winds were 13 gusting 25 directly facing us. landing speed was 65, and he said to add about half your gusting speed to your landing speed to prevent stalls. We decided 78 was good, and literally 50 feet off the ground we got a gust that pushed us to 65. I thought we were hauling ass, and then going 78 to 65 in less than 5 seconds was terrifying. If we didn't add the correction, it would've dropped our speed to about 53, which is 2 kts below stalling. I will remember that experience for a LONG time haha

I hear a lot of people recommend getting a physical and finishing ground school before anything else. About how much did your ground school cost and how long did it take from the time you started studying until you passed the exam?
@TravelWithScott6 күн бұрын
Yes, you should definitely get your medical and ground school out the way first. I got my first class medical, so I knew I was good to go all the way to the top. I did ground school thru Kings Aviation online. I used my dad's lifetime subscription that I believe was about 1K when he got it, but Sporty's has a subscription based one also. I started studying around Nov 2023, but I was slow at it. Didn't take my test until Nov 2024. Should have been able to take it about a month after I started, but life started moving. Test cost me $175 to do.

hey man I have been in ur place but it's different because of the age difference but I will tell you this I am 18 years old and can't join the airlines unless am 23 years old or 21 with RATP, so I still have time, what am trying to say I can't afford a 90-120k loan and I'm still very young but if I was 22-23 I would go running to an accelerated program, why?, because when I'm done training and I start working as an instructor to build hours I would want to go to the airlines asap because that's the main goal and obviously because of the dept, if I start now in this kind of program I will be working as a flight instructor for at least 2.5-3 years, that's a lot for me. this is what I would do if I was you, open budget- start training with blue line flight school (take a loan), 6 months boom ur done and you can start building hours, it will be tough, you will have to go live there, if you have a family go to atp or talk with your local flight school tell them hey I wanna finish in this time, but at the same time you need to be ready for 12 hours of studying flying, it's a huge commitment, u won't be able to work, or waste time. And you can't, you are 41 years old, it will be super hard to get there but the sooner you start and the faster you finish the easier it will be. I would also recommend if you talk with someone that has similar experience or has been in the industry for a long long long super long time, they probably know people or heard stories. there are a lot of variables, no one can give you a right answer so be careful man, it might be the best decision you make or the thing you hate for the rest of your life. keep in mind retirement age is 65. wish you luck in your journey.
