can you make larger balls using the same process?
@rachaelgreenland
@rachaelgreenland 2 ай бұрын
You can, however, I'd be tempted to try tying a knot at the end of your fibre and using that to wind the rest around it to create a ball that you can felt. Take your time with the first step as there is a lot more to felt and you want to avoid creasing or uneveness. Good luck with it, and have fun.

Anyone having difficulty with the cracks? I simply can't avoid them and I've bashed the felt to a point that I could be imprisoned for life... and I've tried mending the gap with the needle without luck, as well.😢

Hi Amanda, Have you tried drawing the fibre in more carefully and really taking your time over the rolling between your hands stage? This should give the fibre a chance to felt more evenly without the cracks and creases. If the issue remains, message me again and I'll see if there is something else going on. Felt has a mind of it's own and can be quite rebellious! It also demands that we slow processes down until it is ready to move to the next stage. R

I just found your channel and I knit for charity, so these bunnies are perfect to sell! I just loved the finishings of your bunny, and I love the bigger ones too! Can't wait to see what else you make! Thank you x

Hi Jan, I'm really pleased you enjoyed the video. The bunnies are great for selling and can be embellished in all kinds of ways. A group of us made a load for a community event where we hid them all over the area for kids to find and keep. We made little labels with a little back story for that bunny and let the kids name them. It was lovely seeing the older kids finding more than one then guiding the smaller ones to them, or putting them back for the littlies. Have fun with your making. Rachael

Could you also use the wool as a thread, instead of cotton thread, when sculpting the face and sewing up the neck and back behind the ears to close the openings ?

Can I do a soap water at home or I can buy it from craft shop? And if i can do it at home which are the proportions?
@rachaelgreenland
@rachaelgreenland Жыл бұрын
Hi, any soap will do. I use a few drops of washing up liquid, but you can grate a little from a bar of soap into some hot water. You need enough to make the water slippy but try to avoid foamy. The wool fibres need to slide a little over each other for the scales to bond. If it's foamy then the scales won't catch. I hope that made sense!

It seems like people either wet felt OR needle felt ... but nobody mixes the 2 techniques. Couldn't you needle felt the ball a little first to get the overall shape and get rid of folds and cracks and THEN wet felt it into a tighter ball?

how many cast on stitches do you need for the square?
@rachaelgreenland5233
@rachaelgreenland5233 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Macy, The stitches will very much depend on the yarn you’re using - so thicker yarn will need fewer stitches and thinner will need more. If you take a look at the band around the yarn there’s a lot of information on there, including the numbers of stitches to make an inch so you should be able to work out how many cast on stitches are needed from that. I hope that helps and wasn’t too vague! Have fun. R

Try to match the colour to the colour of the yarn you used to knit the square, or at least the same tone. The shaping thread needs to blend in and not be obvious.
