My son and his friend were shooting this a few weeks ago and somehow the base pin nut worked loose and they lost it in the grass. The part was difficult to find and I couldn't find it in the correct color as my pistol but then the shipping cost more than the part. I'm assuming I didn't tighten it enough after cleaning it but you are right! Small parts can easily be lost and costly to replace for the more "not so common" firearms.

Recently I have been more on target with it. I think it was more my error in shooting it. The difference in feel between semi auto and a revolver was enough for me that there was a bit of and adjustment or "learning curve" that I had to overcome.

Does the Uberti 1873 have a transfer bar safety?
@backyarddemolition9655
@backyarddemolition9655 Жыл бұрын
There isn't a transfer bar safety on this model. It does have a floating firing pin design on the hammer to help in avoiding accidental discharge from dropping or bumping the hammer. I haven't tested it but from what I've researched it is reliable. None the less, if I carry it I typically leave a chamber empty and rotate the cylinder so that the hammer is in the empty chamber.

All Uberti's are SAMMI (US rating) for satndard factory loadings. I do know that the European rate their pressures alittle higher than in the US, due to large numbers of old antique guns in private hands. So that use lower SAMMI presure limits here as a safety measure. I still wouldn't use any Plus P high pressure loads in your 45 Colt model 1873. Any American loadings are marked as Plus P or *P on the brass head stamp so just check the box of ammo and the head stamp to be sure Now for the older Ruger Vaqauroes (larger frame/ heavy frame) they can easily take much higher pressure loads. Every good reloading manuals have a special section data for them older models Rugers and for their Blackhawk models as well. Rugers are built extra strong, like a tank and can easily handle some very stout loads equal to 44 magnum ( in the above noted models) performance in the 45 Colt. They are however different design inside and outside demensions. They aren't really close clones as the Uberti's or Pietas.

To figure out pull, go to Walmart and buy a $10 luggage scale. It will hook into the d-loop or over the string and you can pull the string back and see what the pull weight is. I nailed mine to the rafter of my porch so I just hook the string on it and pull down.

@@backyarddemolition9655 The Uberti Cattleman 2 edition I bought in Jan is the "Pistoleer" model. Nickel plated trigger guard and backstrap, with charcoal blued screws. Very handsome weapon with an action that was delightful right out of the box. It too is a 5 1/2". Wonderful weapon. And though the other two SSA revolvers I currently have are 4 3/4" models, and are more visually appealing, the 5 1/2" is unbelievably accurate.

Jaymz, it is helpful and I will try and tone the music down in future videos. I have two reasons why I had the music up in this. 1. My monotone voice could quite possibly put people to sleep! lol So the music is to help keep attention. 2. I currently have 11 compression fractures in my spine which is causing my ribs to compress on my lungs causing a persistent wheezing every time I am up moving or doing anything. I figured folks would prefer a little music over the wheezing so I tried to drown it out. I might have done too much but I really do appreciate the comment and will tune the music out better in the future.

@backyarddemolition9655
@backyarddemolition9655 2 жыл бұрын
Desert Tactical I agree. I've heard that some folks have issues with the trigger hanging up when pulled due to the low tolerance and that you can sand the edges slightly on the back in order to alleviate this issue. This only happens if you are pulling slightly to the side and not pulling straight back on the trigger. I haven't had an issue with it so I've left mine alone. Besides I feel that would defeat the main purpose of the Apex trigger and the safety aspect of it.

Why are you “tea-cupping” the pistol??
@backyarddemolition9655
@backyarddemolition9655 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Kosha. My grip in the video isn't quite "tea-cupping" being that my hand isn't fully under the gun but I did move my hand down slightly from a standard position for two reasons. 1. Trying to expose the gun a bit for videoing purposes so folks can see the gun as it is fired. 2. In November 2021 I had a Covid induced seizure that ultimately shattered 11 of my 12 thoracic vertebrae and I've had a hard time standing upright and lifting my arms high enough while shooting to be comfortable. By slightly placing my support hand under the gun I can lift it just enough to get a better line of sight but as we all know, accuracy suffers a bit. I have the same grip however in my XDS review and my accuracy was much better. Also, I ended up adding the music in this video because you could hear my strained breathing when I was close to the camera because apparently when vertebrae are fractured you lose a bit of height and the chest cavity ultimately compresses on the lungs making it a little more difficult to breathe. I'm on the mend though and will back to normal soon. :) Thanks again for the comment.

I have a Henry 22, a 30-30 Wildlife Edition (beautiful gold inlay) and the 410 19" barrel. The levers on the rifles are very smooth to operate. The lever on the 410 sticks when I try to cycle it, basically where you are saying it hangs. Supposedly the 410 is modeled on the 45-70. Wonder if the 45-70 has the same sticking problem? Looking forward to getting a .357 or .45 Big Boy. Maybe ammo is easier to find than 410 or 30-30. P.s. when I say the rifles actions are smooth I mean there is 0 resistance and no hangs anywhere.

I think your right and as Diemerstein mentioned below, the"hang up" is the hammer resistance. I believe it might have to do with the shot shell set up because, like you, I have a 22 and a 30-30 (Marlins, not Henry's) and I have absolutely smooth cycling in the action. I might be getting a Henry Big Boy soon in .45 and would be very interested to see if there is any hang up there. Thank you for your comment.
