Henry 4018 Lever Action

Hey folks! I have another review for you today. It's the Henry Repeating Arms .410 bore lever action shotgun. Model number is the H018 and this is a good shooting gun.
I have the 20" barrel model but it does come in a 24" barrel and a interchangeable choke system.

The 20-incher is a cylinder bore. Makes it great for all ammo types. :-)

That hangup you're feeling as you close the lever is the bolt sliding over the hammer, the action is indeed very smooth, you just have to get used to the hammer resistance.

@@backyarddemolition9655 It will remain this way, all lever action have this resistance. The good news is, you actually get very used to it, it lets you know the hammer is in firing position.

Where did you get the shell carrier on the stock?

I put a Skinner rear sight on my and it’s very accurate shooting slugs.

Good to know Moto Mo. For those who have a hard time sorting out the surrounding distractions, a skinner or "peep" sight works very well for directing focus on the front post sight! Great comment.

Hey BYD. Thanks for the video. I'm getting a Mossberg 500 in 410 soon but it's not the most popular model so it's hard to find accessories. Is that the Allen Rifle Buttstock Shell/Cartridge Holder? Nothing says it's compatible with 410 bore ammo but it looks like yours fits great.

Brad H Here is the link for the holder I got. It doesn"t list .410 specifically in the description but fits great and for $4.29 you can't go wrong. :) BTW... I have a Mossberg 500AT 12 gauge and I love it. I have a Henry 22, a 30-30 Wildlife Edition (beautiful gold inlay) and the 410 19" barrel. The levers on the rifles are very smooth to operate. The lever on the 410 sticks when I try to cycle it, basically where you are saying it hangs. Supposedly the 410 is modeled on the 45-70. Wonder if the 45-70 has the same sticking problem? Looking forward to getting a .357 or .45 Big Boy. Maybe ammo is easier to find than 410 or 30-30. P.s. when I say the rifles actions are smooth I mean there is 0 resistance and no hangs anywhere.

I think your right and as Diemerstein mentioned below, the"hang up" is the hammer resistance. I believe it might have to do with the shot shell set up because, like you, I have a 22 and a 30-30 (Marlins, not Henry's) and I have absolutely smooth cycling in the action. I might be getting a Henry Big Boy soon in .45 and would be very interested to see if there is any hang up there. Thank you for your comment.

My Henry .410 has the exact same hangup that it has to be pushed in to close. It's different than my Golden Boy. These guns usually get smoother with Use, though with a 410, that Use is Expensive. My 410 is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqKkXolsrsdsrLM
