Yes, i agree it can be very frustrating, and what makes it worse is Breville never shows up to address this issue, which appears to be a very common issue among the Barista Pro version. It just leaves it to the end user to figure out a way or, in some cases, like in my case, drive me away from the brand. I am glad actually I had used this and had the experience, which pushed me to more towards the semi-professional machine.

Nice review! For direct lever machines, I always err on the side of starting too coarse for my dialing in. Even if there’s not enough resistance to get a 9 bar shot, I can just adjust in the moment and get a tasty drink. If you start too fine, there’s basically no way to recover (though I will admit to pulling a 6 minute shot once bc of a grind that was too fine).
@CaffeMartellaSingapore4 күн бұрын
Haha I feel you. That is also the reason I am keeping the direct lever configuration for now as I tend to grind too fine. But i enjoy the low pressure preinfusion up for 1.5 min and slowly ramp up the pressure and get a really syrupy shot.

@waldip4474 this is the gen 1 without the plasma ioniser. int t his situation, the choking is due to loading too much beans at one goal. And hence the job is the remove the clog and the choke coffee ground.

Good morning friend, I just bought the SMEG EGF03 machine and I'm waiting for it to arrive, thanks also to your excellent videos, and to the offer of a well-known shop that I managed to get it at a good price, in the meantime what am I waiting for I'll watch all your videos of the machine, but I wonder; is there a 58mm bottomless filter holder compatible with this machine? thanks for the help... PS. in fact I bought the MHW-3BOMBER Puck Screen 58.5 mm, thickness 0.8 mm😉😉

@CH-yp5by in that aspect yes. However I constantly like to change my pressure base on the coffee, grind setting, roast level and age of the beans, hence I like the flexibility of the direct lever.

Nice machine, you need to learn how to steam milk properly, you need to tilt the jug first to get the milk spinning into a vortex that won't happen if you sit it on something upright.
@CaffeMartellaSingapore15 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips. Milk can be steamed as good even if you rest the milk jug horizontally. The key lies in the position of the steam wand. It's either you tilt the jug to suit the position of the steam wand or vice versa. Anyway thanks for the tip again!

I tried to prefuse by holding down the double shot button but after about 8 seconds the coffee starts coming out regardless of whether I take my finger off the button or not. Is there a maximum threshold for pre-infusion where the pump just kicks in anyway?
@CaffeMartellaSingapore16 күн бұрын
I think there is. However, as I no longer use this machine and have it with me, I can not do the test to find out. I would suggest you to test without preinfusion first. Get the correct grind size and the bean to espresso ratio of 1 : 2 to 1: 2.5 in about 30s. Get the extraction right without preinfusion first. Preinfusion does help with a more even extraction though but it is not a must.

Hello good morning, congratulations great video, I'm about to buy this smeg machine, could you advise me the amount of coffee beans that you put in when you made that coffee per minute in the video 34.40, and the amount of coffee that came out in powder after grinding? thanks for the help translated with google translate from Italian to English

Hi first, thanks for watching my videos, buddy! Usually, I don't stall a full 250g in the hopper. However, this. grinder needs some beans in order to press the beans down to the burrs and get grinded. So I will recommend 100g of beans in the hopper and I always use the time grinding function to test for a specific grind size, I always go for 18g of the coffee ground out in whatever time it needs to grind. Most importantly, it is grinding to a fixed output. And it's a standard 1:2 ratio for beans to espresso. Hope that helps!

Well, the built-in grinder does a decent job in producing a decent filtered coffee lacking in many aspects. Mostly, the built-in grinder produces coffee that is muddy, unbalanced coffee usually swing towards higher acidity (not the pleasant kind) and lacking in sweetness as compared to coffee grinded from other stand alone grinder such as the DF64 with SSP Burrs. The current one i am using is lab sweet, and hence, the sweetness and balance are such a drastic difference against the built-in grinder.

My grinder just arrived today, haven't used it but I have the breville barista express with the grinder included. Maybe you're grinding too fine also try spraying your beans with water and give them a little shake? If it doesn't work maybe try different fresher roasted beans. If that does not work either maybe your machine is defective or it's not aligned?

Try to pour in the beans while the grinder motor is on. I have no issue with the grinder choking u less you are grinding too fine or pouring too much beans at one go.

The machine has dual thermal blocks but only 1 pump. A single block machine will need a minute or so to go from brew to steam temperature where as the Dual block requires no heat up or cool down time between brewing and steaming. It saves a little bit of time but you will have to do one at a time, not both at once.

I think you are right on user error I have had my DF54 for months with daily use for both espresso and pourover and never had one incidence of choking or clogging, the de-ioniser needs a tiny artists paintbrush up the chute to clean off the prongs after 2 or 3 uses to keep static under control. retention is always sub 0.2g and anyone thinking of getting this DO IT, I also have a NIche Zero for 2 years and use both daily as I like to compare conical and flat burr coffee profiles.
