YOU want to make a music video, than do it. If you want to show repairing a fiberglass hood, knock off the ignorant music. Serious people don't want to hear that bullsh*t. F+ dude, ain't coming back here no more.

I don’t believe so but I have to ask , I just watched your previous video on frieghtliner hood pivot bracket replacement im in the process of that myself just can’t seem to find the “rivet kit they use for the 2015 frightliners” you mentioned in that video Would these inserts work for that application?

In the process of prepping the hood to finish the job myself just don’t know what type of “rivit kit” or metal thread inserts to use ? What should I get ?
@johnkeith1599
@johnkeith1599 3 ай бұрын
You'll need to use a M8x1.0 steel threaded insert and bolts that match. They can be found at most hardware stores or specialty fastener stores.

@@johnkeith1599 can you please copy and paste a link of an example there are so many different kinds of inserts ? They really didn’t show a good example of what they used in the video so it’s hard for me to match them up . I know he said the “rivet kit they use on the 2015 cascadias” but I can’t really find a “kit” that they use !

You likely have a bent pivot bar, or it may just need to be adjusted. Loosen the 2 nuts in the center of the pivot bar bracket and shut the hood. If it's an alignment issue, then it should shift into place and then tighten those nuts back down.

When you updated the brackets to the bolt kit, did you wait 24 hrs before reinstalling the hood or were the bolts strong enough to hold everything in place while the adhesive cured?
@johnkeith1599
@johnkeith1599 8 ай бұрын
We usually give about 4 hours for the glue to set up. The bolts are strong enough to hold them in place while you install the hood but don't put it on the road till the glue cures.

If I could turn back time..... I would have insisted to my boss to change those low tread super singles on winter time with new tires or I would quit but I was not so experienced so I only commented casually that to my driver manager that I wanted new drives because I felt the truck weird, he said that he was going to tell my suggestion to safety but that never happened, I learned really quick how dangerous a little layer of snow can become on a -12f day

Sorry just skimmed through the video, does this require a 180 deg heat set for 15 minutes like the Lord Fusor brand SMC Adhesive? I'm adding fiberglass body panels to a SMC truck bed and trying to find the latest and greatest products to use.
@johnkeith1599
@johnkeith1599 2 жыл бұрын
If you are needing to "glue" the panels onto the bedside then I would recommend 3M 8273 repair adhesive. It is a 35 minute glue that will bond the two panels together then you can go back and bodywork the seams and smooth it out using the resin and fiberglass matting in our video. No need to apply any heat but like most two-part products, heat will help activate and speed up the drying process. If you have the time then I recommend that you visit 3M's collision repair training website, click on tab "view all courses" and scroll down to HDCV: Composite body panel repair for SMC, METTON, and FRP and also the next video on HDCV: Panel Replacement. They will show you all of the latest materials and proper repair procedures so that you don't have to do it twice. Much better than watching our 4 minute video.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Your 4 minute SMC repair video was the most current and helpful video I've found. The rest are all repairing small holes and a few years old.
