Does anybody know what eventually happens to Macro? He plays such a big role behind the scenes during that volatile period, and is instrumental in some key actions - then he suddenly just disappears from the film - is there a deleted scene somewhere w his fate?

I remember standing in the Senate House in Rome with my dad in 2009, telling him this story. (I also told him about Domitian being stabbed, which is the other famous story that I know about that place - Caesar was stabbed at Pompey's Theatre, not the current Senate House).

Sejanus was a terrible traitor. His children were raped and killed. Tiberius called him the partner of my labour's. The show trials and executions of the weak senators was a reign of terror. He ruled by a spies and terror while the big T was in capri for years. We have a soccer day called the macron Cup.i laugh when I think of macro who strangled tiberias and let caligula rule until he was executed for treason 😊

Pontius Pilate had been appointed governor of Judea by Sejanus and the religious authorities in Jerusalem were aware of this and that Sejanus had fallen from Tiberius's favour as well. This is what they were referring to when they called Pontius out as being no friend of Ceasar, basically threatening him with being denounced in Rome as a Sejanus supporter who released a leader of a rebel movement in Judea.

Within a few years of this there was literally a war where the legions named 4 different emperors at the same time lol, the legions' loyalty were to their commanders because their commanders made sure they got paid and rewarded with land after their service. PS. these were Praetorian guard not legionaries in the clip, they were the Emperor's personal army and Sejanus was their commander

Akshually, Sejanus was still worse. When Tiberius went out for a purge on Rome hunting down Sejanus' allies, many were charged yes, but a significant lot of them got off free from the lack of evidence. Comparatively, Claudius had a higher execution count that Tiberius.

Tiberius after 31 AD was a lot more ruthless than Caligula who was extremely depraved and insane but actually wanted to move to Egypt after a disastrous trip to Germania and rumors of multiple conspiracies on his life. Tiberius' purge after 31 AD was an age of pure terror, with dozens being executed every week, guilty or not.
@DJ-ct6so
@DJ-ct6so 2 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. At least Caligula could use insanity as an excuse. The ageing, jaded Tiberius became a total monster. Many of the treason trials were allegedly a complete sham, as wealthy senators were found guilty of ludicrous 'crimes', and they and their families were executed just so that Tiberius could lay claim to their estates. And then of course there were the supposed atrocities that he subjected young children to, during his last years on Capri.
@tiberiuscave4617
@tiberiuscave4617 2 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, Tiberius was apparently reluctant toward confiscation - the proofs are not consistent. Only three cases are explicitly recorded: the fortunes of C. Silius, of Sejanus and the mines of Sex. Marius. Still, it does not seem, as per Cassius Dio, that the value of the properties themselves prompted legal actions under Tiberius. After all, he had always displayed a frugal lifestyle, and he was not in shortage of money.
