This was an amazing short film, Mr. Gray is a substitute teacher at my school one of the kindest people I’ve met in my life, glad I got to see some of his work ❤

I am thoroughly intrigued by the symbolism of giving & releasing the spoons. I'm definitely going to have to watch a few more times time discover the meaning. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this film!

WOW!!! Very well acted little GEM of a film! The acting , dialogue & direction kept me tense the entire way through! Leaves a WHOLE conversation to be had about what we think happened after the screen went black. Well done!!!

@@RedlegfilmsChi What is your opinion for the rangefinder ?
@RedlegfilmsChi4 жыл бұрын
It makes things easier, plus it inadvertently acts as a diopter. If you set the rangefinder to minimum focus (about 3.5 ft) you can then use the lens’s focus to get focus even closer. But the added extension means wider angle lenses won’t work, since you’d see the barrel. All in all it’s a nice addition, but we didn’t get a ton of use out of it.

Looks amazing. How far did you have to stop down on aperture to get the images this sharp?! I heard this adapter makes the image notoriously soft.
@RedlegfilmsChi5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Anamorphot definitely softens the image! We used Sigma Art lenses which start out pretty sharp. We were able to go to f/2, which was fine on the 24mm and 35mm, but the softness was more noticeable on the 50mm. 85mm was unusable. All in all because of the vignetting at 24mm and softness issues starting at 50mm, 35mm seemed to be the sweet spot on the C200’s crop sensor.
@cinema-q5 жыл бұрын
Redlegfilmsfpf wow, go figure. U would never think with an image this great that the adapter would be that problematic. But this dialogue is helpful. Really appreciate it!
@poman9115 жыл бұрын
With the 24 mm spherical you can definitely see the face distorted (big nose and chin) whereas on the anamorphic nope it looks great.

Awesome example footage. Do you think I would get vignetting/need to crop in if I would use the adapter with a 50mm lens in full frame? Thanks in advance!
@RedlegfilmsChi5 жыл бұрын
No, you won’t get any vignetting with a 50mm on full frame (we found that starts at about 40mm), but focus will obviously be less forgiving than a 35mm or 24mm. You will probably want to stick to f/4 and above. Maybe you can get away with f/2.8, but anything below that will be out of focus on a 50mm. Hope that helps!
@RedlegfilmsChi5 жыл бұрын
50mm on full frame should be okay. We found 40mm is the lowest you can go.
@morecarstuff5 жыл бұрын
The comparison at 1:24 is what sold me. Definetly waayyy better. The subtleness and angle. Changes from "short film creator" to "im in theatre". The tone you get from the shot is just more "serious"
@TrenchfootSalvador5 жыл бұрын
Will this anamorphot work with the Zeiss Batis 18mm?
@RedlegfilmsChi5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. With a 24mm lens we had to use clear image zoom at 1.7x crop in order to get rid of the barrel of the adapter and vignetting. So with an 18mm you’ll have to zoom in further, but at that point the 18mm focal length is hardly worth it. Without using clear image zoom, 24mm is about the lowest you can go on a crop sensor without vignetting, and 40mm is the lowest you can go with a full frame sensor. Hope this helps!

Most people fit this on vintage lenses. I would love to fit it on modern canon glass for amateur shots. What do you think? By the way lighting is impressive.
@RedlegfilmsChi5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! In our experience vintage or modern doesn’t matter as much as focal length and sharpness of the lens. The anamorphot adds a softness and you see the barrel of the adapter under 24mm with a crop sensor camera and under 40mm with a full frame camera. We have successfully used it on the Sigma 30mm f1.4 on an a6300, but it was too soft under f2.8. Hope that helps!

Disregarding the change in bokeh and lens flares, it's amazing to me how even though there's a very subtle change in the look of the rest of image when comparing the two side by side it's actually a lot more obvious subconsciously. The anamorphot looks filmic and engaging whereas the spherical looks digital and everyday looking.

I’m planning on using the adaptor with the 28 f2 Sony full frame. Put my a7r3 into crop mode will this work well?
@RedlegfilmsChi6 жыл бұрын
You should be ok, but the adapter adds a softness that can sometime make focusing difficult.

I don’t understand why when you put the black bars you losing information up and down. Isn’t it suppose to stretch the image horizontally? Changing the Scale on Y to 75? It seems like you are using black bars. Anyway it looks amazing.
@RedlegfilmsChi6 жыл бұрын
The Anamorphot squeezes a 1:2.35 field of view into a 16x9 frame, so the image out of the camera looks stretched horizontally and you do need to bring the scale down on it to 76% to get the image to look right, so that’s where the black bars come from. This is better demonstrated in our C200 example: Vixen 82: Canon C200 4K + SLR Magic kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHPPlGh5eJ2noLM ... Since posting this KZbin has started hosting videos with a 1:2.35 aspect ratio, but at the time 16x9 was the only thing available so the black bars were unavoidable. We put the black bars on some of the spherical shots to show the difference between putting black bas on a spherical image to fake anamorphic (very common and we are also guilty of) and true anamorphic. Thanks for watching!

interesting. I may have to get one of these. Not only would it work on my Sony DSLR, but I could even throw it on one of my Super-8 cams (yeah, I shoot that too). The only thing is is I'd only get 16:9 out of the Super-8, while I'd get the full 2.35:1 on the DSLR.

how did this lens fit on this camera if it's a EF mount? What adapter did you use for the lens ?
@RedlegfilmsChi6 жыл бұрын
The Anamorphot threads to the front of an EF Mount lens. The adapter comes with several adapter rings, but we needed to purchase a 77mm-62mm step down ring to get the adapter (62mm rear thread) on the lens (77mm filter thread). Thanks for watching!

this info isnt in the description but the SLR Magic Anamorphot is an adapter. And they probably put it on top of their already owned lenses.

The RAW dynamic range and color potential as well as ergonomics, modularity, etc. on the C200 make it a better fit for a feature film. Or as our DP put it, 'OMG YES!'
