Great content, really informative!! I’ve toyed with the idea of contracting for many years but I never made the move. Your story is similar to mine, had some mental health issues to overcome in December but now I’m in a much better place and realised a few things that my current role does not align with my values and how i get fulfilment. Contracting is definitely something that I’m considering rather than permanent

Great video! Any advice about student loans as a contractor
@MichaelTabirade4 ай бұрын
Thank you! Student loan will be taken out, and easier to work out if you are inside the IR35. If you are paid weekly and you pass the Student loan thresholds, it'll come out each week. That's how I was able to pay mine off without even realising it.

@@MichaelTabiradethanks for taking time to reply, any advice if outside ir35?
@25nasar4 ай бұрын
Even HMRC doesn't fully understand ir35. I have contacted them and they had huge difficulty explaining this. When you are inside ir35 you are also exempt from claiming many of the expenses and your client can pretty much dump work on you without paying for it. Ir35 is a disgrace and just another way to shaft workers

Love this! I’ve binge-watched your contracting videos before I started contracting and they were very, very helpful. 9 months in and I’m enjoying it :) one thing I do in terms of finances is that I didn’t change my lifestyle at all. As a full time employee, I was saving around 30% of my net pay. I just save more now but I maintain the same level of expenses.

The biggest problem I've seen in the past is that a lot of agencies are advertising a day rate for inside IR35 contracts is that your forced into using an umbrella company and either way they're deducting the employers NI costs from that contractor's advertised rate instead building it into the client/umbrella fee, i.e. they're making the contractor(employee) pay for their own employment taxes(employer) which isn't technically legal and in reality, net you are making money off a rate lower than advertised to you, again illegal. Be incredibly careful when reading the definitions of rates in your contract, especially 'assignment' vs 'gross'. They get around this by people being ignorant and not reading or challenging these contracts. Also, it's an example of the hands-off approach of government policy that allows this abuse. They rely on people needing a job, it's awful.

Great video Michael thanks for sharing your experiences. I am researching into going into contracting myself. Can I be cheeky and ask who the account firm was who helped you understand the different pay structures and pay amounts (I.e. inside and outside IR35)
