I have a little true-life story that may amuse: It was my first day in 8th grade and my first class was “Gym” and we were all lined up around the basketball court waiting for the new “Gym” teacher who was just starting that year. Finally, a 30-ish man with a buzz cut dressed in chinos, gray “Navy” t-shirt and, if memory serves, Joe Lapchick high-tops came onto the floor with a solemn-faced little boy of four, maybe five years in tow. After he introduced himself, he told us our first class was to run laps, which we did and while we trudged our circuits, our teacher proceeded to demonstrate to the lad how to dribble, cut, fake, and shoot and then issued stern commands and corrections as the tyke tried to duplicate his moves. The year was 1952 and the court was Aliquippa High School. The teacher was Press Maravich and the little boy has always held a special place in my heart and I feel so privileged to have witnessed the first day the legendary never-to-be-equalled “Pistol Pete” Maravich set foot on a basketball court. RIP, little lad, you were one of a kind.

What an event this was. Tyson was the youngest heavyweight champion of all time and the Undisputed WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight champion. Spinks was an Olympic Gold Medalist, the Undisputed WBA, WBC, and IBF light heavyweight champion and dethroned the 48-0 Larry Holmes to become heavyweight champion.

Pete would be a total nightmare today. Just like Curry, opponents are forced to pick him up at half court. His ball handling would easily get him into the vacant lanes of today. Add in his awesome passing...man, what a show he'd put on

Pistol was mixing it up for fun and Gervin was trying to win lol. When Pete said "that's it?" (as in you're going to spam the long distance shot every time?) he knew Gervin wasn't in it for the show he wanted to win lol

To bad I was not play HORSE!!! Both would have lost!!! None of those shots were really hard!!! Stand on line at the circle, under the basket, in front basket then: Behind the back over the head bank shot into basket!!! Bank shot from center of the foul line but off the back board top right corner where the ball rolls around the rim at least once then falls in!!!! Scoop shot from the right side, equal to the foul line, at the 3 point line banking of the back board square!!!! Dribble in at full speed run from half court and bounce the ball off the floor and off the dribble at the foul line that bounces of the back board and goes in!!!! Regular shot from the foul line but the ball curves and drop in the basket!!!! Straight foul shot but the ball rolls around the rim about twice before falling in!!! Hook shot from 3 point line, Meadowlark Lemon shot!!!

Macadoo Belongs in Basketball hall of fame , along, of course with ‘Pistol Pete’ Pete gave Mac very tough trick shots , Some of which Mac made, and even the ones he missed were close. Pete was nearly unbeatable in ‘Horse’
