Do you remember your flash power settings?
@HannahCouzensPhotography9 күн бұрын
Good question. I can't remember the exact number, but I try to keep it as low as possible to have the shortest flash duration to freeze the movement. Most flashes has shortest flash duration at the lowest power, so if you want more power you would want to add more flashes and keep the output at the lower numbers, or increase ISO. There are flashes with shortest flash duration on highest power output, but they tend to have a much longer duration than the B10's at output power 2 out of 10. Having 1\50,000 of a second duration, making them perfect for freezing movement.
@bpike018 күн бұрын
@@HannahCouzensPhotography by low flash power you mean something like 1/128 or similar? I have Godox strobes.
@HannahCouzensPhotography7 күн бұрын
@@bpike01 Yes. You will most likely have shorter duration on 1/128th power than 1/1 on a strobe. Use two at 1/128th instead of increasing the power of one strobe when you need more light. Also find ways of controlling the light in your scene in other ways, such as blocking windows light or turning off overhead lights. Hope that makes sense.

How are you able to achieve focus on your gymnastics when you turn off all lights? I have trouble with that.

I gave this a try recently actually. I was very impressed with the blemish and freckle removal feature, but, there was a snag which I am not sure if its documented or not. But the AI feature is, I think, based on the detection of an eye in the photo. If, like me, you'd captured photographs where the eyes are concealed (in my case from a hood) the blemish removal tool did not work. That was a deal breaker for me and so I stuck to Darktable, which is not as easy to remove blemishes with but its also not too tricky.

Software is good, but pricing is only for volume photographers imho. The smallest package of credits you can buy today is 1200 for $84, which doesn’t sound too bad on a per-image basis, but the credits expire after a year. So it’s basically an extra $84 per year minimum, and expect this will only go up.
@HannahCouzensPhotographyАй бұрын
@@fourwallsphoto You are right, it suits high volume shooters like me very well otherwise that’s a lot of time I have to dedicate to editing. Perhaps if you were only doing a few shots per month then it may not be for you but I burn through the credits, especially when I’m doing corporate work so it is a godsend for me. Remember you can get 30 free credits from the link that will last a year so might be worth giving that a go if it suits your needs 😊

Hey Hannah, I was dubious about getting this a while back, used it sparingly as I have the 30 free images ( sorry from Manny Ortis ) but OMG it is just 'so' good. After watching your video, it really endorses Evoto and I will buy a 1200 pack. My biggest issue is that there is no permanent way to have this as a plugin from Lightroom. I guess its me, I did "make one" but have to delete as LR wouldn't open another plugin. But overall - so so impressed. Forget Protrait Pro 24. This is the way forward. Embrace AI guys. Try it out. You will not regret it.

Interesting...but you didn't mention what it costs after the 30 are finished? Their website seems a little opaque to cost too. Thanks
@HannahCouzensPhotographyАй бұрын
Hi David, Sorry for the slow reply,it's been a busy week. You are absolutely right, Should have said what that cost. So I purchased the package of 1200 credits for £73.99. (I went for the lowest package as I was trying it out still but it gets more cost effective the higher number of credits you buy.) So £73.99 divided over 1200 = £0.0616 per photo. So the job where I edited 90 photos in 30 mins was 90 x £0.0616 which equals £5.54. That is 100% worth it to me!! Hope that makes sense.
@david.robertson.photographyАй бұрын
@@HannahCouzensPhotography thanks Hannah. The cost per image is good value indeed and if like you have many portraits to adjust is probably a good investment. However it’s a bit steep for me as portraiture is not my primary interest. Thanks for for the reply

So it doesnt affect the light on the model, just the background?
@HannahCouzensPhotographyАй бұрын
It depends what part of the video you are referring to. If you change the distance of the light from close to the subject and background to further away then it will affect both BUT if you keep the distance from the light to the model the same but move both the model and the light (at equal distance) away from the background then the light on the model stays the same but the background changes.

The best thing about your tutorials is that you present them in a down to earth manner with no frills. This prepares the photographer for the reality of doing the shot. The worst thing in this one specifically is that you don't talk about post production. It's another skill (and cost) for those starting out. But I appreciate you can't do everything in one video.

Hannah, first thanks for the video. Late to this party and as a new photographer just getting into portraiture, it has quickly become apparent that one recipe does not fit all. I realize that not everyone is going to do the same thing the same way. That said, Daniel Norton on Adorama TV suggests the lower modifier, if not on axis, should be larger than the key light. You like the equal in size. Peter Coulson has a monster light overhead, and a slightly longer strip box underneath - almost straight over head and straight up. Now, I do realize that many people cook not by strictly what is written in a cookbook, but season to taste. That said, there appears to be no unifying video on what to do what (and most of use don't have enough money to go buy every modifier under the sun so we can try on something Jerry Ghionis does, or Lindsay Adler does - and it's hard to see difference each of these would make without someone doing a side, by side, by side comparison of shots etc. Would you give it a consideration?
@HannahCouzensPhotographyАй бұрын
Hi, Sorry I missed this at the time. You are right, there are no hard and fast rules here, we all have our own way of working and that's what makes it fun. I appreciate that as a new photographer you almost want something consistent so you know if you are doing it 'right' as such but if you like the results that I, Daniel, Peter, Jerry or Lindsay achieve then go for the one that you like best. I totally understand that you don't have every modifier going but perhaps what you could do is organise a shoot day with some other photographer friends and rent some of the modifiers you want to test and share the cost. That way you can try things out for little cost but get to know what would suit you best before purchasing?
