Useful training Hanna as always. Love your studio with opposing boom arms - excellent use of space and so well organized. Always impressed with your eye for details and your ability to influence the model to adjust position in just the right way. Look 5 is my favorite, with the formal Look 1 as my second choice. The diffuser on umbrella tip I will always remember - a huge time saver. Knut did an amazing job on the video - you two seem happy together! Thanks so much for producing such a quality video!

I am shooting with an X2T and when I put it in ttl I don't know where to look for the settings that the ttl shot with. Could you guide me on how to find those shot settings???? I will be watching more from you. Keep it up!

Hi Todd, Thank you very much! The flash system I use lets me keep the ttl flash settings when I switch from ttl to manual mode. From there I can adjust it in 1/10 increments up or down in the manual mode, to achieve the look I'm going for. I change all of these flash settings from my remote trigger that is mounted in my hot shoe on top of my camera. Hope that helps, if not let me know. Best regards, Hannah

Nice work, but I am a little confused. You set your camera Manually and put your strobe on TTL, then after the first shot I thought you said you put your strobe in Manual. What I think you did was leave it in TTL and make a compensation adjustment. Is that correct?
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography Жыл бұрын
The profoto trigger allows me to take one shot in ttl, then keep the same flash setting when I switch to manual mode. From there I can adjust the output of the flash to my taste in manual mode. It is designed to help you achieve a good flash exposure fast, accurate and to your own taste. If you choose to keep it in ttl, you would get small incremental differences which is not what you would want once you get back home and start your post process. Hope that made sense =]

Great stuff! Excuse my ignorance... If youre only using one light, what flashes when you shoot? I'm keen to try something like this but I'm not a photographer. I do have a light, a white umbrella and a 50mm 1.4 lens though. I need to understand the lighting better. Tx
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brendan, thanks for your comment. So as long as I’ve understood you right, we are working with one flash here. The constant light is the modelling light which is led and I use this to focus and see where the flash will fall once I take the photo. The modelling light acts as a guide for when I trigger the flash by taking the photo. I hope that helps or if I haven’t understood you right at all then just say and I’ll try again!
@BrendanRoss
@BrendanRoss 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Still not sure I understand... 🙈So the light thats in view (for us the viewer) Is the same light that flashes when you take the shot? Just at a higher power?
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrendanRoss yes! You got it! So if you were to look at the flash there is a tiny LED light which is surrounded by a circular tube which is the flash. The LED (modelling light) is there to help us focus and to see where the light is falling. With the exposure settings that we have, the modelling light doesn’t show up when I take the picture as it’s not bright enough. The flash fires instead which is much more powerful. Hope that makes sense! Hard to explain without pictures etc
@BrendanRoss
@BrendanRoss 3 жыл бұрын
@@HannahCouzensPhotography thanks so much! Makes sense now. I thought i could pull off something like this with my video light but it won't be strong enough. Thanks for taking the time to explain 👊🏻🎷
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrendanRoss You might be able to do it if you have different settings and are in a dark room so only the video light is affecting your image. You could use a higher ISO, lower shutter speed (not too low so you don’t get camera shake) or open your aperture to let more light in. Depends how bright it is and what conditions that you’re in. Good luck!

Enjoyed this. Like you, I have the B10. Do you ever feel the need for more power, e.g. B10X? And in terms of light shaping tools, do you ever feel the need for larger modifiers, or a beauty dish. One more question on the video, when you talked about 'stopping down' did you mean altering the aperture. By the way, it looked like your B10 was on continuous light mode. But you were just using it as a strobe, right?
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
I do have a Profoto B10 Plus, however I've used just a B10 and a Magnum reflector in Santorini and overpowered the sun. When I'm stopping down I mean narrowing the aperture inside the lens or increasing the aperture number. I was using the modelling light to help me focus and see roughly where the light would fall, but the light is from the flash tube not the LED light. Hope that helps =]

Excellent video , nice shots too . I have a question , Did you shut down the ambient lights while you did the actual shoot , as the video showed up very bright , especially at the apertures you used . I am not criticising just interested . Thank you .

@HannahCouzensPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roy, sorry I missed your comment. Yes I did indeed shut down the ambient. I make a point of always doing that and mentioned that at the start of the video. Always start with it completely black unless you are incorporating any ambient light 👍🏼

Excellent. Great for us amateurs. But I think you could have given just a little more detail. Explaining a little bit more on how your using TTL for a test shot and what that result was and what you changed to in manual mode as well as power settings on the light. Oh, and the mounted wall arms for holding the lights. Love those. Where do we get those..
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Jerry Mallett Hi Jerry, I thought my explanation was pretty clear in that TTL is reading the scene, speaking to your camera and calculating the power it thinks it ‘correct’ for that scene. With the Profoto system, it will then stay at those power settings from TTL and then if I feel that I want more or less power, then I adjust that manually based on what I want. As I said, it’s like a test shot in that it gives me a ball park figure and then we can adjust from there if required. The flash power is actually irrelevant because that all depends on the conditions, the modifier, the power of the head etc so will vary every time. I like to give people the tools so it can be recreated independently rather than a specific number or formula which I know won’t be accurate for you if you try to recreate it on the other side of the world in different conditions with different lights and a different camera setup. The point is, don’t get caught up on the numbers. I have no idea what the power was set to on these images and I don’t care, I just got it to a point where it looked good to me and went with it. 😃 the boom arms are from Manfrotto. Hope that helps a bit!

@@HannahCouzensPhotography Thank you Hannah. There's a lot to learn in the photography lark, and I tend to ask a lot of questions when I feel the need. If you don't ask questions, you don't learn. Well that's my rule anyway. But once again thank you for your excellentctutorial and your prompt response. It is very much appreciated. .

Hannah, thanks for sharing. One tip, your cameralens is "breathing" while filming. It means its trying to focus in and out you could better set it at manual focus cus its kinda annoying.
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes we know it’s a bit annoying but we tried and with the amount of movement, manual focus wasn’t working out well. Please remember that we were in the height of lockdown with only us in the house. On balance we felt that a bit of focus shifting was better than not having focus at all.

From where is the flash coming? I mean the B10 is set to constant light right?
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The light you see is the modelling light from the B10. The B10 has both a modelling light and a flash tube. The modelling light is on to give an indication on where the light will fall before taking the shot, and to help focus.

Hi Hannah, thanks for that, so very useful as always :D Seems like an age ago that I attended your portrait course... still learning!! ;) I have a question, I have a couple of the Godox SK400II studio strobes, but they only go down to 1/16 power... do you have any suggestions how I can 'tone them down' a bit, as there are times that they are a little too powerful (should have gone for the 300W versions!). Thanks again!
@HannahCouzensPhotography
@HannahCouzensPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Pawsey Photography thanks Kevin! Learning a craft takes time so stick with it. That’s a shame that you can’t get the power lower for the look you are trying to create. The only thing you could do would be to add a neutral density filter and / or add more diffusion to your light but of course that will affect the look of the light too.
