I live in Mexico. They are friendly but rich companies pay and treat the workers like slaves. Contract jobs for 6 months. Then they can say adios 53,% live below poverty line. Average minimum ,$ 2.75 USD per day. Not hour. No paid vacations or holidays. You can't have a comfortable life on a smile. Typical American who grew up with privilege

Merida/Yucatan was the first of our 3 Mexican trips, in December 2021. We stayed near Parque Santa Ana. I easily could have unpacked and just...stayed. Strange to be in a foreign land and feel instantly 'at home'. There were, however, days when I thought the sun was trying to murder me. 😀 "Isn't it dangerous?/Aren't you afraid?" are by far the most common comments from friends and family. I've never felt in danger, even when walking the streets of Mexico City. (Coyoacan is totally awesome, BTW)

Help..I'm moving to Merida in 2 months and am having a hard time finding a hair salon...I have straight hair and color it a golden blonde. Can you recommend any salons in Merida that are used to doing expat hair? Please help🌺
@holaadventures

Hi! Sebastian's wife here :) If you're looking for a professional that speaks English and has a lot of experience with "gringo" hair, Legacy Grand Salon & Spa has you covered. It is one of the more expensive places I've gone, but if you just need to go somewhere that speaks your language and has experience coloring blonde hair, it's a great place. I've also heard similar reviews for Kate Miasik - I haven't been to Kate's salon myself, but it's a higher end spot with familiarity working with your needs. Since we've lived here a few years and I'm more comfortable navigating the language, I now just go places around my neighborhood, because it's a lot more convenient and cost effective, and frankly with all my chair hopping, I haven't had any bad experiences. Best of luck with your move!

Hi thanks for responding! I did chat with Kate Miasik salon but couldn't get her to send me an approx cost just to color (no bleach, not cut). I am so used to paying $70 with tip...I really don't want to start paying $100 every month. Have you heard of Corvo Salon located at C. 72 497, Parque Santiago, Centro, 97000 Mérida, Yuc., Mexico. It has a lot a great reviews, waiting on that response now.🌺

I do think exposure to other places in the world is a good thing and I commend you for wanting to check out other places! Everyone's experience and goals will be different, but a lot of people come from around the world to study in the states and they survive, and some even really enjoy it! My family moved from another country to the states... the ones who settled on the west coast seem happier than those that stayed in Chicago. What are you planning to study? What are your goals and what are you hoping to experience or avoid? In terms of the Mexicans I've spoken with in Mexico who spent time in the states - the ones who went to California/Oregon/Washington and stayed in a big city seemed to share a better experience than those who went to rural areas, the midwest, or Texas. I'd strongly recommend avoiding what's considered the southern region of the US. You can type "southern region united states" into google and it will highlight where I'm talking about. Best of luck to you, let me know how everything turns out!

Who owns the media in America? 🤔 America isn’t safe because all the guns shooting and all the guns are flowing south of the border, so cartels get them because America is supplying them, Mexico has crimes too but I travel to Mexico a lot for years and I have never seen anything what the American media says about Mexico, thank God but also homeless is a big problem in America and you see little in Mexico, but even the poorest works

I live between Florida, US and Oaxaca, MX. I am much happier in Mexico than the US, and live better! Everyone I encounter on the street are friendly and helpful. I walk 3-10 miles every day in both places - bored in the US, interesting in Mexico. Last month I was back in the US and was shocked at the prices of food, clothes, and most everything. My girl friend and I had dinner in a restaurant in Oaxaca yesterday. We arrived at 2:30, we left there at 9 pm. We talked with the owners, other clients and friends. And had a great time. That is common in Mexico, and absent in the US. I don't have a car either place (first time in 60 years!). You are right about zoning in the US. In the US, there areno stores or services within 2 miles. My home in Mexico is near little markets, restaurants, and interesting things. Walking in the US is boring, in Mexico - never boring. I lived in LA for 3 years during Covid and often felt unsafe when out walking. In Oaxaca, I have never felt unsafe. I love Mexico! All of my friends in Mexico are Mexicans - and one Italian! There are other expats, but I rarely interact with them. Good video - fairly presented information.

I think every new nomad who returns to the States makes one of these videos. I know I felt this way back then, but, not these days. It changes the longer you do this, and, over time, you will see the goodness of all places and not just the green grass on the other side of the hill.

Hey amigo, you bring up a fair point. I think something to keep in mind with my personal experience, is that when I went back to the US, I returned to my hometown, which I left 10 years ago due to its blight, safety issues, and general decline. Over 10 years I've continued to be stunned, anytime I return, at how far it's fallen. But every person and place is unique, I always appreciate the food for thought ✌️🇲🇽

Hey there, I'm happy you've got yourself in a good place in the world. The US offers a diverse experience. I've lived in cities as big as Chicago and small rural towns of 20K, but that doesn't mean my experience will be the same as everyone else's. I think about 83% of US citizens live in urban areas, which may be why so many cultural references are drawn from that. Hope the small town life continues to treat you well, cheers!
