I love this song but f me, he was super lazy in his opening delivery. I'm off to listen to the across the wire version. I love that folk are still listening to and appreciating these fantastic musicians and songwriters. Very inspirational.

I should have said in the 90's not 80's. It is so long ago , a time I would like to forget, but David , you, your voice, your lyrics and your band made me get through that rough time. Your lyrics are often sad and heartfelt, but you helped me chose life.❤😢

this is such poetry, theres no other word or genre to describe it as. his voice carries the anger and agony, his words carry that sense of bittersweet hope that makes the song create a literal sculpture. nothing more and nothing less for that is all that we are.
