Great scenery! I think the pocket 3 does a better job on auto exposing on face while still keeping the background dynamic range under control. Also under low light, pocket 3 has better performance, which is to be expected with the bigger sensor. They are both fantastic cameras though! Thank you for doing the comparison!

I think the DR is much more in the Action 5, and the colour profile just seems richer than the GoPro. Totally agree in the ice cave the GoPro would blow out the highlights way more. I'd probably lean towards the Action 5 honestly.

Great review and i’m finally leaving Yuneec and going DJI. Think i’m gonna wait for the 3s and Mavic 4 Pro versions to hit the streets. If Mavic 4 catapults ahead of the Air series… may just drop the extra cash as the camera is much better quality. Cine may not be worth it… We shall see.

That overhead shot from the drone of the two of you on the glacier was wild! Inside the ice kind of creeped me out a bit but visually that was stunning. I kind of like the colours coming out of the Action 5 a bit more, but the Pocket 3 definitely has it's uses. Ideal scenario would be to have both if you could afford it.

Someone suggest me,one of these. Action 4 adv. combo or action 5(no combo). Both are on same price in my country for this sale.

I rarely vlog with these cameras, so for me it's the Pocket 3, because of superior image quality. But don't get wrong, the image quality of the Action 5 is good also, especially if filming in D-LOG M or HLG color profiles. Great comparison Jake, there both great cameras. And I would say get both if it's in your budget, some situations call for a more rugged action camera.

Wow…now this is how to use an action camera! And who else sticks a camera on the back of a helicopter! Some nice new options…not sure it’s worth an upgrade to my OA4 (which I love) for my use case,but I’m impressed. I’ve never forgotten an SD ever, but now I’m worried…

I almost always prefer the video on the OA5 simply because I want to see the background. That said, I thought both were great and would lean towards the Pocket 3 for most vlogging. Owning both helpful, but I wouldn’t like to carry both. Well done and amazing scenery that we don’t get anywhere else!

If the action 5 had a 1 inch sensor for lowlight it would be the perfect camera. And if the pocket had an option to have everything in focus it would be the perfect camera. Blurring the background loses a lot beautiful scenery

I am still between GoPro 13 and DJI Action 5. I think GoPro 13 has better stabilization and horizon level when comparing to DJI. Many other things are very good in DJI. Image quality is very close. Sometimes I prefer GoPro, and sometimes DJI. I need more comparison videos for hiking

sony actively making cameras that perfectly complement each other so you buy both 💀 example: A7IV/A6700 for photo and video respectively as well as portrait/landscape and wildlife/sports respectively, sony a9iii and a1 for the same stuff

Every time I pull out my pocket 3 I’m sorry I did. Probably user error, but I always find it pointing the wrong direction (slightly) . For me, action cams are just easier and I’m willing to give up some quality. And I’ve got them both.

Is it true that the DJI Mimo app doesn't work with Android devices especially Samsung phones? As I could not find the app on the playstore.

To me Action 5 has better rendition when there is harsh or high-contrast lighting.

Wow, how are you getting so much time from the GoPro batteries? If I get 30 minutes at 4K 30 I drop to my knees and thank God. I have tried every new GoPro battery, off-brand, cold weather (even in Thailand was worth a shot) and battery life stinks. I have to record in 1080P to get any reasonable record time. I have a 12.

In OA5 Pro they need to fix colors in auto mode. For now this camera is only suitable for shooting in D-LogM.

The Action 5 camera is the first camera that records very poorly in full light. I don't understand how DJI made such a big mistake. The colors in full light are unnatural and lack tonal range. They are false like cheap Chinese cameras. I have several devices from DJI. I was planning to buy the Action 5 camera. Unfortunately, the quality of the videos is at the level of mid-range smartphones.

They say "There is no replacement for displacement" for cars. I guess it is the same for the sensor size too.

You are mixing up vlogging with makeup tutorials. I follow hundreds of vloggers and they want you to see everything around them in focus. If I want a blurry bokeh background for some reason I would pull out my Canon and a nifty 50mm lens. The pocket 3 is kind of a joke because of the bokeh. It's pretending to be a DSLR with a 50mm lens. So you would just get a DSLR and 50 is you wanted that always. Makes no sense.

I have already taken snapshot of that same coment which you mentioned here... That is the only comment which is there. It is not only for fast moving effecting this low but rate. Even details are lost if we keep camera static or very small movement. Loosing a quality for faster transfer and low file size... Bad move. We are living in 2024. One side they have updated and other side downgraded same camera... Just daily checking for Bitrate update 😂

I’m not sure if I missed it but the one thing worth pointing out is the new Action 5 Pro “normal” color modes (not D-Log M) have a pretty strong HDR look to skies, skin tones, and even show some haloing around objects. I find it a fairly significant step back from the Action 4 (much more so than the overhyped bitrate issue). Now of course if you use D-Log M and color grade that all goes away but I suspect many use the normal modes straight out of camera and in that the Pocket 3 does a much better job, at least for now until hopefully DJI does some firmware magic to the new Action 5 Pro. Of course the Pocket 3 still benefits from using D-Log M too, it’s just it’s normal mode is significantly superior to Action 5 Pro.

What a pleasure to see this spectacular scenery. Thank you for this excellent comparison of these two cameras and taking us on your adventure. Each camera has its strengths. The deep focus of the Action 5 captures the scenery beautifully.

What about the Bobbing Effect In Pocket 3 ?

DJI did a great job with pocket 3. it produces the footage with a better details and more pleasing natural colors and skin tones. one day i will upgrade my pocket 2.

Hey i did not know until my girlfriend took my pocket 3 and put it side ways super fast and the cam adjusted to portrait. So if you did not know the pocket 3 can do portrait with the full sensor. I received my action 5 2 days ago 😁
