I can understand he suffered bullying when he was a kid. I also understand that he prefers stories about deformed people, and that he finds them more interesting than normal people. I also support the fact that he wanted to raise awareness about hazing and bullying, and also to offer support to their victims. However, that being said, instead of writing his own original story, and out of all the stories he could choose to adapt, why did he chose Shojo Tsubaki? I mean, that story is unnecessarily cruel and it has virtually no plot. It's only a bunch of horrible things happening to a 12-year-old one after the other, with no deep messages nor character developement. It's cruel just for the sake of being cruel. For instance, the puppy killing scene could be taken out and nothing would change. And did he thought that just by adding symbolisms with the flowers and an “open” ending, that was enough to make a “deep” movie? When i knew about this film in late 2018, i considered this film to be an abomination and this man to be a psychopath. However, right now i think that this movie is simply pretentious (and also disgusting). And that this man, was an enthusiast who just chose the wrong story to promote his messages.
I like how the video is trippy, then you get to 1:39 lol

This video is my personal feel good corner since 4 years. I've been around youtube since 18 years, but I this feels like the true youtube checkpoint (とげとげタルめいろスーパードンキーコング2"). This anime and this clip, always gives me hope, for a not so fucked up future, or more like when shit happened, live will go on. And its just good vibes :)

I highly recommend the book "Memories of Memories". It contains Otomo's full storyboards to Cannon Fodder.

I watched Midori years ago and somehow Im only watching this interview now. I had a ton of respect from just the fact he did all the animation (cause god thats not easy at all) but seeing this made me understand his intentions and why he was so passionate about this. Im so glad the movie isnt lost to time, its a tough watch but i think its worthwhile in its own right

That poor, middle-aged woman is going to be long dead (and most-likely injured), before she finishes “The Oeuvre”… Now, that’s true Horror!

I love the gritty aesthetic of Cannon Fodder, I wonder how the linework was achieved. Was it Xeroxed? Did they use different kinds of pencils/pens than normal?
I am so happy that youtube recommend me this while I was having a bad day

The manga tends to dwell on places, that we have seen, that will see again, such as Arufa's front door, and this is where she sees Kokone for the first time. This photo of Kokone is an example. It's established that Arufa / Alpha can recall the photo exactly when she uses the camera's memory. But Kokone fades like an old photograph in this anime. We must think of the future when these photos are taken as well as understand they are moments captured. I am three volumes into the manga now, and am starting to see an outline of it. Kind of wonderful idea, this author has.

I'm (UK) three volumes into the manga, fourth maybe in the new year, have only found four episodes of this anime, and one doujinshi. It's a masterpiece among much dross, and I'm glad to find it this time around.

@@stevetheduck1425 i'm glad you found it and liked it. YKK is very underrated for being just a simple Slice of Live, but the truth is it is one of the best.
