Thanks for the class. I have a K&E set bookmarked on EBay. I'm pining for the pre-computer era of graphics. Something like this would appear occasionally on Three Stooges Episodes, with worker trying to paint title on frosted glass door.

I just picked up a set on Ebay and I've never seen one with this many extras before! One thing I'm curious about is that what I've got is the adjustable scriber and a separate letter height adjustment gizmo that you can attach to it. I'm wondering if this combo makes it basically the same functionality as the height/slant scriber? The adjustment grid seems like it would be far easier to use because there are no markings of any kind on what I have, so you'd be hard pressed to keep any settings consistent. But I wonder if the range of height and slant are the same between the two?
@sinashishehgarha3023
@sinashishehgarha3023 11 күн бұрын
@stevewik2280 normally engineering tools should be quite straightforward, and the adjustments should be easy so one can choose the same one each time they use the device. I really wonder about the gizmo you just described because if it's hard to keep the adjustments consistent or if you can't say what adjustments you've already done, it can't be practical. Anyhow, it's not a bad idea to search its picture on Google and see if anything like it can be found or not. Many thanks for sharing your experience, and I'd be really grateful if you let me know the results 😊 🙏

@@sinashishehgarha3023 , sorry, hebrew, japonese, chinese and arabic. It is suitable for oriental writings. Occidental uses or italic pen or right oblique. If you are writing over one inclined table italic fits better and is faster. If you are using an horizontal table the right oblique will work better.

The humanity used this for centuries and forgot this in just some decades. If you need to use for oriental writings choose left oblique over a flat table: you will see how much more easy is to get that effect. I recommend you to use some sheets under the used one to produce some bounce. It will manage better the widening and narowing of lines. You will get good results much easier.

I wish you would do a video that focuses on only the finest lines that pens that can produce them, like the 0.15 and smaller. A video where you tell us about the trials and tribulations of each kind of pen and the best option for these tiny lines. @soupbonep I will put it top in my agenda, but to make it short, the best pen to produce accurate fine lines is actually a permanent technical pen.The line quality is always the sameand the tip never wears off. This is a very cool pen and so versatile. I would love to have one to try out. What is the smallest line that you can get? Looks like you wrote a 0.1. Is that true? That would be amazing if so because one wouldn't have the problems that come with the technical pens of that size.

@soupbonep Hi buddy 👋 actually it's the most interesting pen I ever had, and as you said, the most versatile. I really recommend it for artists, but if one is only interested in drawing fine lines, it can't keep up with the 0.1 technical pen. But in terms of versatility and practicality, it almost takes over any other pen in this category. I will make more videos about this pen and different nibs of it. But just to make it short and answer your question, the quality and thickness of the line really depends on the angle you hold the pen and in some nibs the pressure you apply, and can vary in each nib type.

So, what is the class of numbers for which pairs of line segments with the number as the ratio of their lengths, be constructed with compass, straightedge, and this tool? For compass and straightedge, my understanding is that it is something like, the rational numbers adjoin the (2^n)-th roots of integers, if I remember correctly? I know the square root of any integer is in there, but I don’t remember how to take the square root of an arbitrary given ratio… Oh, I think I vaguely remember the process. Ok. It sounds like this method allows constructing the sine and cosine of any rational multiple of 2pi? Does this allow for constructing any (real) algebraic ratio? If so: I’m surprised that one tool like this is enough to get to the algebraic completion of the rational numbers?? But maybe getting cos((a/b) 2pi) isn’t enough for that? Ah, wait, Yeah, just having the operations of n-th roots for positive integers n, and arithmetic, doesn’t suffice to get all the algebraic numbers from the rationals, because of (e.g.) the “unsolvability of the quintic”. Still, maybe this at least gets you everything expressible using just arithmetic and n-th roots? Like, there’s a correspondence between trisecting an angle and taking cube roots, right? Does that correspondence extend? Seems like it should. Ah, taking the cube root of e^(i theta), is trisecting the angle theta, but I want to cube root a ratio of lengths… If I have a ratio of lengths, I can find an angle which has that as its tangent, Uhh, tan(3 atan(x)) is probably a cubic polynomial in x or something like one? (a+b ı)^3 = a^3 + 3 a^2 b ı - 3 a b^2 - b^3 ı = (a^3 - 3 a b^2) + (3 a^2 b - b^3) ı, uh… Letting a=1, (1 - 3 b^2) + b (3 - b^2) ı , Hm… Can probably do it, not clear to me how to do it.

@skiegazer1953 It's my honor that you found the video useful and really appreciate your compliment 😊. As for the issue you just mentioned, I had the same problem with one of my Pelikan Graphos sets and should say it needs patience to address it. First, submerge it into a mixture of warm water and dishwasher liquid and let it be maybe like one week, depending on how hard the ink has dried. If you have tools like ultrasonic cleaner, it can be helpful, then use a tool like a tiny screwdriver and insert it in the back hole on the metal part of the section and without applying too much pressure try to push the feed out. Remember, don't apply any pressure on the notch of the feed as you can easily damage it. As I said before, you need to be patient for this and don't try doing it once, do it step by step, not damaging any part as the newest one is at least 40 years old and finding spare parts is a real headache. Wish you luck and take care.

I wouldn't have known you could use them to make all sorts of polygons... I had been eyeing a set prior simply for reducing/enlarging designs, but now I've even more reason to save for them!

@CSGraves And plenty of other applications, buddy. But remember, I really suggest the one with decimal scaling over the other. Its range of applications is almost unlimited, and with a little practice and experience, you can even be innovative and find other applications👌

@@sinashishehgarha3023 Been a while since I've used a vernier caliper or micrometer, so it'd be a bit of re-learning to read the such a scale again, but the increased flexibility seems worth the effort.

thank you. I have been looking at a second hand set of Staedtler proportional dividers, but unsure if they would be useful to me. Now I know.
