21:42 State v. Woodell (idk if that's how it's spelled) Pretty entertaining bond violation. If this guy knew Judge Simpson, he'd know that you're going to get more out of him with honesty and humility. This defendant has neither of those things.

1:45:02 State v. Hampton Another 'tough guy' for Judge Simpson. We all went to high school with someone like this. They would perpetually be in trouble, and their only defense was to keep saying "but I didn't do nothin'." Of course he's being represented by a college-grad attorney too, but the young man handled it well.

24:33 State v. Valentine This was the "pro se" woman from two weeks ago who asked Judge Simpson what her options were. Here, she tries to bypass the proceedings by saying she wants to plead guilty to two counts of assault on a corrections officer. Listen closely and you'll notice how much she loves all this attention she's getting.

I don't understand the "no contest" plea. Someone told me that it meant the victim of a crime committed wouldn't be able to sue the person convicted of the crime. Is that right? It doesn't sound fair to me that the victim couldn't get their medical bills, therapy costs and expenses arising from the crime paid by the other party once they've been proven guilty. I'd really appreciate a response from someone who actually knows what they're talking about
@PeateargСағат бұрын
In Michigan, "A nolo contendere plea does not admit guilt, it merely communicates to the court that the criminal defendant does not wish to contest the state's accusations and will acquiesce in the imposition of punishment."[11] A nolo contendere plea may be appropriate "where the defendant would not be able to supply a sufficient factual basis for a guilty plea because he or she was intoxicated on the night of the incident, where there is the possibility of future civil litigation resulting from the offense, or where a defendant cannot remember the events which led to his or her being charged with a crime" from wikipedia
@adamquinn323552 минут бұрын
You aren’t admitting guilt. You just don’t contest the fact that the state has enough evidence to convict you in front of a jury.

She's full of baloney that's why, you seem them all the time. It's really odd behaviour when renting should not be this difficult. It's excuses to why they don't want to pay, it's not that they are broke, they just had at handling money. Many plead poverty but they eat extremely well. So that excuse doesn't wash with me. Pay your rent and have total peace, don't pay and you make life harder on yourself... and stressing the judge out. 🤭

I love watching but seriously think you need to listen to some of the people a little better. The last case i dont think he was fully understanding what she was trying to say. They was only put on the payment plan bc the other person had a bill. So to keep it going without putting up a full balance. They added the payment plan that the other person was to be paying every month. But instead they added it to the couples bill bc the other person wasn’t paying.
@southernparadise98962 күн бұрын
It took me a minute to figure out what the tenant was saying. From what I gather, when they moved in (2019), they just took over the landlords estimated payment plan. It didn’t get put into the tenants name until they lived there almost a year. The landlords estimated payment was a lower amount because it was based on one person…, of course the usage went up exponentially after a family of five moved in. So end of year (2020) when they got the actual reading, there was a large outstanding portion. So that’s why dte tried to get that 2500 before changing it over to the couples name. It’s also why their bills in the year Dec 20-Sept 21 were a lot higher because now they were estimating their bill based on the higher usage of the family from Oct 19-Oct 20. Edit to add…I’ve never heard of water bills that high so I’m hoping it’s both water and electric.
@deedee74962 күн бұрын
@@southernparadise9896 They state they was paying the portion they used a the agreed payment plan. The bill went from $281.00 payment plan amount to over 500 a month. Meaning they was paying for what they was using and the payment plan amount. Every time the gentle man tried to explain it he is told it’s not wanted to be heard. I haven’t either mine is about 53$ a month. That’s a whole lot of water.

If the landlord cannot charge rent because there is no COC, then there should be no tenant allowed to live there. The property should be treated the same as condemned and the tenant should be thrown out the next day like people in apartment complexes are after floods. She gets to live there for six months rent free and get all that escrow back all the while denying access for repairs to be made. I don't know why anyone would want to get into this business when it is so flagrantly rigged in the favor of one side.
@44days6212 күн бұрын
It's the lawyer's fault. He should have argued for his client better. The landlord shouldn't charge rent, but someone is not legally allowed to live somewhere rent free for months at-a-time or we all could do it.

Oh my goodness…Judge Simpson deserves a medal of honour for his patience with many of the cases today. I’m beginning to believe all landlords and all tenants should be required to be represented by legal counsel. When a case is presented where neither the plaintiff or defendant can answer a simple, straight forward question from the Judge. Or at least have the landlord forced to have representation so then the Judge only has to expend so much energy on the tenant….. .

Let me put it from another point of view....she's restraining his upper body..presumably from testimony he was using his hands/arms to attempt to do harm to himself while trying to kick to keep people away/hurt them (at least that's the conclusion I draw from all the testimony but I could be wrong) a person can retain control of an individuals upper body while momentarily for safety reasons 'slap' a leg away....what they can't do is retail control of the upper body and grab and restrain a leg....not alone...its not possible not without help or some other physical activity that would be disapproved of....and this is coming from someone who is trained in legal form of use of force. On a use of force scale, she restrained an individual whose intent was to do harm to themselves or others and did not use excessive force (according to recognized Use of force charts) to do so. She should be found not guilty.

Most likely witnesses refused to give testimony. Unfortunately this is common for domestic violence, assaults, and stores don’t send anyone for shoplifting. I’m sure not all of them are due to this, can also just be not enough evidence.

@Jusader5 күн бұрын
Generally to be honest, say for example, a domestic violence case happens. So, police show up to the scene, take reports, and "typically speaking", they're going to have a defendant that's wanting to press charges for example. Parties separate, etcetera. So, during that timeframe of discussing things with the public defenders office (which is "the people"), sometimes a defendant will back out of the charges since things perhaps cooled down, became very serious, and they're not wanting to go through with it. So, for that example to continue... the public defenders office will often be unable to proceed in such cases if the initial defendant isn't cooperating. That case will be dismissed. That's just one example though. What Lisa Parker said is exactly right! Sometimes people just don't show up, don't want to be involved, etcetera.

No depth, no real use of the brains you were privileged with but refuse to use due to social norms and being part of a very disturbed twisted American society. Seems these court cases are just entertainment for Americans instead of giving them an insight to the failing system that some people think can be fixed. Instead it gets worse and people become more complacent and ignorant to this. Instead you love a judge for what? Doing his job! Being a decent man and human being before he was a judge? Ever thing about that! I doubt it. People have forgotten to value the individual Instead judging them on the uniform they wear first. You see this as a fashion show.
